Want Some Hints About What to Expect with X-Men Origins: Magneto?

X-Men Origins: Magneto
X-Men Origins: Magneto
As we get closer to the release date for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, fans may be wondering about the other prequel film proposed starring one of the main characters from X-Men – in this case, the Mutant Master of Magnetism, Magneto. Well, Aaron Sims, character designer for X-Men Origins: Magneto recently told MTV a bit about what fans could expect from the film if it gets greenlit.

Sims is quick to point out that “Unfortunately, because of the writers strike, it got pushed off,” Sims said. “But they’re now back to the rewrites.”

What Sims is able to say is that the film will be an origin story. “Remember the scene [from 'X-Men'] in the concentration camp where you see Magneto as a young boy? It just continues from there,” Sims said. “Some people thought that might be too dark, but I really like that. It’s a lot of death and mayhem.” Sims also confirms that, much like with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, X-Men Origins: Magneto will feature additional mutant characters from the comics – leaving Sims the challenge of designing visions of the characters that will keep fans happy, but also surprise them. “The fan base has a vision of what they should look like, and that’s always the challenge,” Sims said. “It was the same with The Incredible Hulk.”

Fortunately, for Sims, X-Men Origins: Magneto director David Goyer has a whole slate of projects ahead of him before he gets to Magneto. (Goyer is currently slated to direct The Invisible Man, SuperMax and Baltimore, or The Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire) Why is this fortunate? Because Sims has a full slate as well, including another superhero - Green Lantern.

“David’s like me,” Sims laughed. “He works nonstop. He’s not one of those kinds of writers or directors who ever stops. I’m surprised he has any time at all. But I’m fortunate to work with directors like him who I admire. I can’t say no to him.”

X-Men Origins: Magneto comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Michelle Rodriguez.

this movie has good potential. and the only people going on about the whole "dark" thing, are batman fans. the Wolverine movie is gonna be slightly more darker than what the X-Men movies where. It's only right they make the movie to suit the character. No, spiderman should be left alone. it's fine the way it is. but other characters need to be darker (as chad said) to reach it's potential.

P.S... does anybody know what other mutants could be in magneto?.. i suppose it depends on far back they go with the story, and what age they want Magneto to be for the story to unfold.

wow!!! comrade & chad's thoughts towards superheroe movies has valuable points,"dark knight" IS the dark knight, any other comic book character you plan to make dark would be overdoing it. on the other hand(as chad_vital pointed out on the "leonardo with the swords" observasion)to make a comic book character "kid-friendly" would only keep it from reaching it's full characterization and design potencial.

Haha just for fun I'll disagree :P

lol okay now where were we...I'll defend those who are "throwing the word dark around". I don't think it's really about The Dark Knight, it just so happens that hollywood FINALLY made one of thee most popular comic icons like Batman, more grown up, gritty and realistic than any other. I mean, I've been saying it for years that everything should be R rating lol ya know but that's just me. I want to see a Mutant Ninja Turtles movie with them actually killing people or at least cutting them to some degree. That's why I never liked Leonardo. He has SWORDS. Did he ever use them? I don't recall him ever, EVER stabbing or slicing anyone with them. I mean come on, be somewhat realistic. Don't insult our intelligence. Yeah it was aimed for kids that's cool and all but make the realistic version first, then make a kids version for dvd or something. NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. I hate that sh*t. Grown ups are making the movies, so why are we 2nd place to kids who talk, run around and scream during the movie in the theaters? It's bullsh*t. And besides, parents nowadays don't even give a f*ck what their children watch. Mother- "What's Billy watching?" Father- "Showgirls." Mom- "Oh he'll love it, it has dancing!"

So back to what I was saying, f*ck yeah make them dark, make them real. Even if they are corny to some degree, you can have Spiderman shooting webs and climbing up walls while the bad people torture and hurt people like it would really be if there were superheros in our world today. The world is more ridiculous than a man dressed up as a Bat or a red Spider-Man.

Thanks Vamp. I agree with all the smart people here, The Dark Knight was what it's called: The Dark Knight. Spider-man is not The Dark Spider-man, or the night web crawler, o Magneto is not called, the dark whatever. i mean seriously.

Yeah, chill, though i too agreed with everything you just wrote. I'm so f*cking sick of people saying that a movie needs to be darker just because it worked for "The Dark Knight." It's ridiculous.

People keep throwing around the word "dark". It doesn't mean anything f*ckers! These characters are who they are, and the reason they are popular is because at one point or another, someone wrote them well. You find those works, and you try to emulate that characterization with your own spin on it. There's a series starting out now called Magneto:Testament, it should be pretty indicative of what we'll see in the film.
Besides, Magneto is dark to begin with, and aside from campy adaptations in cartoons, he's never strayed far from that.

And another thing, people seem to think that because The Joker's look was gritty and grungy and rough-cut, unkempt, whatever you want to call it, that The Riddler is going to be that way too. Dirty isn't synonymous with realistic you morons! A character like the Riddler, a calculating, methodical, insane puzzle-master, would probably be obsessive-compulsive in the maintenance of his appearance. Nice, always pressed suits, a very controlled and deliberate way of talking, and so forth.

Ok Maybe I got some kind of carried away with the whole origins things, it's just that there is supposed to be space between the realease of one and another. you got what I mean, THe Wolverine Origins is realeased this year, the 4th is realeased I think at the end of this year(2009) and I think that the magneto origins is gonna be realeased something like 2011. that is too much in a small time, you know.

Storm could so carry her own movie. That's the origins film I want them to make most. She's got great storyline, and she's an awesome character.

  21. Chad Vital

I know you were joking about a Storm spinoff but seriously, lol that would never happen. She couldn't carry a movie by herself there's no way. Unless they made her almost naked then most nerds and guys would attend lol. You have to be realistic when you do spinoffs. Gambit could easily have his own film. And include random popular mutants like Nightcrawler.

    3 years agoby @chad-vitalFlag

  22. Chad Vital

Fountain, they mentioned doing spinoffs on Wolverine and Magneto a long ass time ago...right after the 3rd X-Men I do believe. So it's not like they are just making up spinoffs as they go here lol. Magento and Wolverine were the biggest parts of those films. Each character can hold their own film.

  23. Structure (ONSTRA)

dude, srry to say that, but I checked the trailer of Dragonball on your profile. No sound at all. except if I am deaf. lol.
and so what's next, X-men: storm origins, Or X-men: blah origins. Stop it. I did like the Idea of wolverine's origin for the reason that he is mostly the main character even if he's not the leader but you know what I mean. Now Magneto. and then there is the x-men 4.
wait A MINUTE: i got confused, how many X-mens r they gonna make in the next 2 years, 10. is it just like a game and each day they try to make a new idea for another X-men movie that is coming out after the other in like a week.
I love the X-men franchise, But people, stop I got confused already. I know lots of people would disagree, But come on save us time between a movie and another in a franchise. you know.
