Vin Diesel Is Looking to Play a Marvel Comics Villain
With the rush of superhero movies lately, it's somewhat surprising that action star Vin Diesel hasn't yet appeared as a comic hero. Well, as the actor revealed to MTV the reason for that delay is partially that he's waiting to star in a film about a Marvel villain.
To hear his cryptic explanation
Now, it's worth noting that Diesel doesn't suggest that Marvel has yet approached him about playing this mysterious "complex villain." But it's interesting to consider which villain Diesel has in mind. Let the speculation begin!

diesel may have the look and sound of apocalyse, but he doesent have the skills to play another lead role an b taken seriosly. i mean, his last few movies bombed. even that piece of crap babilon ad was poorly reviewed, id hate to c him destroy ne comic villians characters persona. jus as Jackman an maguire created the comic movie craze, i think diesel could very well end it.....

Either venom, o sinister, or as Comrade pointed out to me (can't believe I didn't see this) Galactus. That would be sick!!! As for Vin being Lex, thats idiotic. Michael Rosenbaum, and Spacey wee both good. But I think Supe's needs a different villain from Lex.

VIS knows what he's talking about.
He could totally be Apocalypse!!
I'd be excited about Drax. Maybe Diesel has a unique definition of villain. I mean, if they make a Silver Surfer origin movie, he was a pretty bad guy (actions anyway) before FF2ROTSS. I'd watch Diesel as SS, even though Doug Jones did a great job. I'd even watch it if Vin Diesel played both SS and Galactus.
I'd watch a Bullseye movie too.
F*ck, I'd watch a movie that was about Kingpin, and Daredevil was like, an ancillary or external character; they would only ever make reference to him as Daredevil, never Matt Murdoch. A Daredevil movie from the POV of the Kingpin, whom Vin would be AMAZING as.

Yeah, i thought spacey was the best thing about returns. When he stabs supes with the kryptonite..."NOW FLY!" Def. not humorous ha

Also Rhavn, I think Routh was alright as Superman. If not, I've not seen one sensible idea as to who should replace him. There was a plan to make a Superman film in the nineties, Nicolas Cage was the leading candidate for the role. Cage as Superman! Thank god the plug was pulled. So compared to that, I think Routh was eventually, a far better choice.

I second that Visionary. However, I think Spacey did a great job in Superman Returns, and was disturbing rather than humorous.

The guy below clearly has never read a comic book...diesel or statham as lex f*cking luthor? I get that we don't need a humorous lex, but that doesn't mean that any bald action star can portray an intelligent, megalomaniacal buisiness man.

Screw Marvel. He needs to jump on the chance to play Lex Luthor in the "darker" Superman movie that DC is planning to make. Get rid of the "humorous" Lex. Michael Rosenbaum gives a jumping point for Vin to base the darker persona of Lex from. But who would be worthy enough to play Superman and share the spotlight with Vin Diesel?...another "no name" actor from a soap opera?
But if Vin Diesel ignores the opportunity of playing Lex Luthor, then I'd go with Jason Statham as Lex.

Lmao Travis. And about the movie, I mean fighting against any superhuman, not necessarily Spiderman. One superhuman pitting their powers against another's, that's the main fascination to these movies, seeing how it turns out. Not heard of Shocker either. Diesel needs a BIG character to get his career back on track. I think Carnage would fit the bill. But as Visionary points out, nothing's even been started with this venture yet.

A movie based soley on a villain has lots of potential, turok. Take venom for example: he's had his own comic series. It doesn't necessarily have to feature spider-man to be good. He could be mentioned, but they could bring in other spidey-verse characters(i.e. wolverine where they're bringing in every mutant and his brother lol). Carnage could be Venom's "enemy" in his own movie. After all, Venom has made himself out to be sort of an "anti-hero" at times, even teaming up with spidey on occasions.
Besides, I'm just not saying this cuz it's my opinion. It says right up there: "he's waiting to star in a film about a Marvel villain"

Just one question Travis:- If there's no superhero to fight against, what will the movie exactly be about? Surely he needs an opponent of equal standing.

With villains usually getting the plaudits these days, Diesel needs this to get his faltering career back on track. He needs to do this good as well, as I think he may be in the Last Chance Saloon to make it really big. Not saying anything more until I know who he's playing, as I usually guess wrong.

The best villain Vin Diesel should play has got to be Darkseid in the next Superman film,he has the build and the voice for him perfect.

Sorry dude Travis. Thanks for explaining. Well he could play like the guy suggested, Sinister. THat might work, vuz it's kinda singular. Leave out the X-men and focus on his early life, like in WW2, and such. Like Spoog200 said, I don't see any supervillain movie candidates in Marvel anywhere...

Diesel is no carnage. that character has to have an accent to be different enough to work on screen next to venom. Gimme Ewan McGregor, a sober Colin Farrell, or How bout Harry Potter himself. I recommend accent, because the serial killer aspect has of carnage's character is an energy too similar to what Ledger did with 'Dark Knight's' Joker. The accent would at least alter the intitial aesthetic of 'Carnage.' Carnage's downfall is so gonna be the Dark Knight/Joker parallels.
BTW, Cillian Murphy would be perfect, but 2 villains in 2 different franchises prolly wouldn't sell
