Venom will be set in the same world as The Amazing Spider-Man
"What I'm trying to say to you without giving anything away is hopefully all these worlds will live together in peace someday."
Producer Avi Arad also revealed that they are trying to stick closer to the comic book origin story of Eddie Brock.
"It's an Eddie Brock story. We want to be as close to the comics as possible. Especially in Eddie Brock's story. But again, pseudo-sceince is becoming science. All these tidbits about webs, artificial webs, is a huge industry now. Spiderwebs have unique qualities that will be huge for communications, fibers, and so forth. So we have taken the approach that we want to make the huge amazing movie about Eddie."
Matthew Tolmach also spoke about their approach to this journalist character.
"He was a journalist. He had the wrong story, he got in trouble for it, he got fired. The whole essence to us for the Marvel characters. Stay close to the bible, stay close to the emotional story, and the rest is fun."
We reported back in March that Chronicle director Josh Trank is in talks to direct this spin-off, but it isn't known if the deal has been finalized or not.
The Amazing Spider-Man was released July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Irrfan Khan, Campbell Scott. The film is directed by Marc Webb.
Venom is in development .

yeah man
honestly my heart broke when I heard the news about the reboot back in 2010
my entire childhood shredded right in front of my eyes
Ive been with the 1st 3 movies since I was 12
I dare anybody to find one person in the world who feels the same way I do
sorry but Andrew Garfield does not resemble Peter Parker in any way, and they should have chosen someone else for Gwen Stacy
and the Lizard doesn't even look right to me
and the costume, I cannot forgive them for changing it all together
can someone explain to me when Spider-Man ever had yellow lenses? and seriously the boots, they look like sports shoes for crying out loud
Im passing on this reboot; SONY really crossed the line and is still testing my love for Spider-Man now

I thought Topher Grace could have been a fine Venom, but they needed to introduce him in Spider-Man 3 and then make him the main villain in SM4. It was disappointing the way they crammed him in like that.
I think there are any number of actors who could pull off a good Brock. Armie Hammer could be great in that role, unless they're wanting to skew younger. It would depend on whether they were planning to make Brock and Parker the same age, and at what point they would be introducing Brock into the story. I would assume that after The Amazing Spider-Man, they're going to take Spidey out of high school, like they did in the previous series. If Parker was in his 20s in the second film, then someone Hammer's age could work as Brock.

@junior-roberts As soon as my wife took me to twilight i was like holly crap he could be Eddie Brock. Plus he's young enough to be part of a majore series of movies.

Venom could be a great franchise. He has the possibility of being as big as Wolverine but it MUST be done right.
I think all the actors you guys are naming are too old for the role and/or already connected to a Marvel character in another franchise. (Fassbender, Hiddleston, Hemsworth). I think @supermanvenom got the perfect cast choice with Kellan Lutz. Yeah, he may have Twilight connections, but 1) he is a solid actor, 2) looks almost identical to Eddie Brock, 3) isn't new to action sequences.
I'm looking forward to a Venom spin-off movie from an established appearance in one of the new Spiderman movies upcoming. There's no need to rush it because whether you put it out tomorrow or 10 years later, audiences will flock to it IF DONE CORRECTLY.

When they redo decide to do the Venom Saga properly, I hope it begins like how the 90s cartoon began, with the symbiote attacking J Jonah Jameson's and the other astronaut, making it impossible for them to land the rocket safely. Thats where Spiderman comes and saves the day by making the Rocket safely land on the Brooklyn Bridge, then thats where unsuspectingly the symbiote gets on him. But they half to do it right this time, the symbiot not only made Spiderman stronger and him angrier, it also gave him the ability to shapeshift into any other outfit, just by thinking it. Also he has to be badass with more attitude and more quick tempered, Tobey Maguire displayed some of this, but he was more of a goofball with it, dancing in public for no reason, its not really edgy. So hopefully they'll get all of that when they decide to do it.

@vampire2000 ....The Mime agrees. Venom was such a complex and very interesting character. The way they cramp the guy into Spiderman 3 was a big fail. Introducing the character like what they are planning on doing right now is a way to go. That way, when his and Spidey's worlds collide, it should make for a great story.

@kidd Sparks Possibly so, but I do distinctly remember reading in Entertainment Weekly back in 2007 that Ben Kingsley was in talks with Sony to play the Vulture, but the character had been scrapped because Arad and Ziskin felt the Vulture and Kingsley were too old for the intended audience and that Venom was red hot in the comic world at that time.

As long as they do better than the last attempt at Venom.

@renodc Wait...I thought that's what Raimi was gonna do with the 4th installment, had it got made.I think I remember reading about the Vulture but that was 4 the 4th movie. Also,I think he wanted to make Felicia Hardy the "Vulturess" which wouldn't have sat well with fans IMO.All in all I'm glad SM4 never got made.If any1 should have been the Villain it should have been Lizard since they kept Easter egging him in Raimi's series. At least now we get him. =)

@Mr-White and @junior Roberts. From what I understand, Raimi's intentions were very close to what the two of you had discussed. His initial vision was to continue the Harry Osborn arc and introduce Vulture (Ben Kingsley was in talks) as the heavy in a organized crime boss role and to have Flint Marko as the conflicted underling who becomes the Sandman. The character of Eddie Brock would play a intermediate role, but Venom would not emerge until the fourth film. From what I had read, producers Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin felt that they needed to strike with Venom while the iron was hot and forced Raimi to take out the Vulture, who they felt wasn't a viable character, and replace him with Venom. It all boiled down to lack of patience, which looks like what Arad is doing again trying to rush Venom to the screen.

@junior-roberts I thought i'd get backlash from it cause of twilight lol. I've been saying he should be him since i saw twilight.

@jayaottley While I do like both Tom Hiddleton and Michael Fassbender, they seem a little too old to play Eddie Brock, I mean those guys look like there in there 30s, Brock is suppose to be early 20s, but if I had to choose Fassbender would probably be good. I'm really hoping that The Venom Saga gets saved for The Amazing Spiderman2, you can't have Venom without Spiderman. Also it would be cool if Marvel/Disney could work out some type of deal with Sony to get Spiderman in The Avengers2, he would be perfect for it.

@bawnian-dexeus That;s the exact aspect of a 3D Spiderman film that I like as well. As well not only to see what it feels like to be Spidey but also to have him fly out of the screen towards you while he webs across the skyline of N.Y.

Bawnian©-Dexeus
@jayaottley Let us know. I still think the attempt to use 3D to allow us a view of what it feels like to be Spidey sounds more complex on paper. So, hopefully it doesn't cheat out those expectations

@bawnian-dexeus IMAX 3D, I've always wanted to see how Spidey would look in 3D, hopefully that aspect will meet the expectation of how I've always imagined a 3D Spidey flick.

@bawnian-dexeus So would I, Whedon done it justice and who knows with the route that TDKR is taking maybe Marvel will attempt something like that as well.
I'm seeing T.A.S next week in IMAX but I don't think it will meet or appeal to my expectations which at this current moment are low

Jay.A.Ottley
@cheetoboy I agree the only plausibility I can think of for this to happen in a standalone way is this way.
That maybe somehow in TAS is Lizard's / Dr Connors and Spiderman's blood samples are somehow merged together and that somehow gets connected to the symbiote which jumps on to Brock.

@jayaottley Not bad. Win win for everyone and the fans can stop bitching about Parker not being in the Avenger's movie. Since they will go the ultimate route, would be interesting if they attempt to kill Parker. I'd pay to see that

Also anyone like this maybe Tom Hiddleston or Fassbender for Eddie Brock / Venom.
Another possible candidate was Tom Hardy

They also laid down a possible story of incorporating Venom & Carnage into the Avengers by incorporating Spiderman into The Avengers universe
