  2. NAME GOES HERE

how can they already be remaking of a movie that was made in '92?

Anyway i'd never heard of it but this will probably suck: Nicolas Cage couldn't act if his life depended on it and in Ghost Rider (where he was also with Eva Mendez) his acting seemed to have fallen to an all-time low

it turns out hes just using the name to anger fans of the original, as a form of publicity. there will be no connection between any of the characters or storylines, and it will be filmed in new orleans because he said theyll get a nice tax-break if they shoot there.

and he insults abel ferrera repeatedly throughout the interview.

with a body of work including writing for shows like COP ROCK and l.a.law, i wouldnt expect too much from mr. finklestein.

after having read the interview with herzog id like to kick him in the nuts... having said that, i should probably point out that i do like werner herzog i just think he should be more respectful to abel ferrera, who has directed some of my favorite movies, including bad lietenant and king of new york, among others.

  11. The Kwisatz Haderach

this film is from 1992! what is going on in this world? Has apathy and fear of war driven creativity out the freakin window! Hell Harvey Keitel is still acting! 1992 wasnt that long ago!
Next year they will remake movies form 2000, screw this crap!

Well after this rant of mine I read what you said err.
damn! Should have read that sooner. ha

i just found an interview with werner herzog here:
    http://defamer.com/395038/defiant-werner-herzog-to-defamer-who-is-abel-ferrara

when asked if he was working on a remake of bad lieutenant he said this:
Yes, but its not a remake. It's like, for example, you wouldn't call a new James Bond movie a remake of the previous one - although the name of the bad lieutenant is a different one, and the story is completely different. It's very interesting because Nicolas Cage really wants to work with me, and just anticipating working with an actor of his caliber is just wonderful.

so basically hes just taking the name and using the popularity of the original to sell tickets.
ONE MIGHT THINK MOVIEWEB WOULD HAVE FOUND THIS OUT BEFORE ME AND TOLD US THIS SOONER.

  13. Err

    im skeptical.
i like val kilmer and nic cage but im struggling with my need to point out that the old bad lieutenant was some of harvey keitels most poignant work, and to give that role to nic cage just seems like theyre making a hollywood parody of a brilliant independant piece of work.

  15. AnnoyingFilmCritic

Nicolas Cage is still a great actor...He's had more misses lately, but, never count him out. If I were his agent, I'd tell him to do another independant-ish film, along the lines of Leaving las Vegas or dark comedy like Raising Arizona.

Commercially...I'd suggest Ghostrider2 (which he has expressed much interest in.)
