UPDATE: Jackie Earle Haley to Play Sinestro in Green Lantern?

Aint It Cool News dropped a tiny bombshell today when they revealed that Freddy Krueger himself, Jackie Earle Haley, is set to join the cast of the DC Comics adaptation Green Lantern. According to their source, he is set to play the villian Sinestro. But take the news lightly, because as of now, this is just a rumor.

Ryan Reynolds has already signed to play the title character, and as stated by AICN, Martin Campbell is currently finalizing the rest of the cast for Green Lantern.

It is also being reported that Superman will be making a cameo in the film. Green Lantern is set for a June 17th, 2011 release date.

UPDATE: (10/18/09 10:30 PM PST)Collider spoke with Haley on the red carpet of the Scream 2009 awards last night and the actor revealed that he is not involved with the film, at this point.

"You guys are out in front of it and I don't know anything about it yet. If something comes up I'll let you know," Haley told the site.

While he said that he hadn't screen tested for the part, and the first he heard of the role was through walking the red carpet that night, that doesn't mean he wouldn't sign on to the film. We'll be sure to keep you posted with any news regarding Green Lantern as soon as more information comes in.

Green Lantern was released June 17th, 2011 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, Jenna Craig, Jon Tenney, Mike Doyle. The film is directed by Martin Campbell.

    What does anyone think of Rainn Wilson playing Hector Hammond in the GL movie? While reading my copy of the , I pictured his character as the one that Wilson played in a small role in Transformers 2, the *sshole type know-it-all.

    Ummm...your deion of Jackie's "take" on Freddy is just the basic characteristics of the character, both Englund and Haley: the glove, the burned face, the hat, child molester...those things make Freddy Freddy, it's not just Jackie. I don't care if you were kidding...it was stupid.

I was kinda pissed when I read his cop-out "this movie will suck" line. *sigh* It amazes me how easy some people don't give things chances, especially when it's not even made yet lol. You people are the reason why they don't make anything original, cause you hate everything, so they don't risk it. They figure it's better to be safe than sorry. They'll make more remakes and sequels since it's a sure thing (sell wise) for most audiences.

I am sory but I don't believe you, and I mean judging a book by its cover (movies by its early draft/sc*ript) is kind of lame when its still in pre-production. Many things are bound to change and of course if your as big a fan as you say, you will be disappointed. The biggest fans always are.

    Just to fill you guys in. Jackie was asked at the filming of the Scream Awards last night about him being in Green Lantern. He has denied it by saying he heard about it the same way the fans did and that nobody has even tried to contact him about the role.

    DC films arent going anywhere and wont be for a pretty good while. Its already be given that there will be no more Superman. Probably wont have Batman 3 until 2013 at the earliest. Wonder Woman is a bust. The Flash would be lame and end up being a summer lackluster. The only thing close to a film for any of those characters are those direct to video cartoons.

    I'll see it out of respect, just like Saw 6. Everyone knows it'll suck but no doubt it'll be top of the charts that weekend.
    I know the GL movie will suck, but I'll see it because I respect the character to much.
    Also with ANOES, I have no doubt in my mind that JEH will be an awesome Freddy, the look, the voice, he's a great actor.
    Unfortunately, the movie (like many of the remakes of today) looks terrible, and I also believe that the movie will be bad.
    But I digress,
    Still, on the topic of JEH as Sinestro, I don't believe in this. I think they should get either someone who looks like Sinestro and shares the passion, or get a fresh face to play one of the GL's greatest friends/foes.

    Actually, I know plenty of people within the film industry, namely Greg Berlanti.
    Now being a Green Lantern fan, I can say for a fact, this movie will be horrible.
    I have no hope that this movie will be good
    Especially when they have Ryan Reynolds as lead role, who can't act his way as protagonist out of a box.
