UPDATE: Is DC in the Early Stages of Watchmen 2?

DC may be making Watchmen 2
DC may be making Watchmen 2
Bleeding Cool is reporting that a Watchmen 2 sequel might be in the works.

It was initially said that DC Comics Publisher and President Paul Levitz had stopped any Watchmen 2 projects from percolating. Levitz felt that this would severely go against Watchmen creator's Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons hopes for the story.

This all happened even though Moore had a very nasty break-up with DC Comics and Paul Levitz. In addition to that, the Watchmen comic book became DC's biggest selling publication in the history of the company.

Changing this game entirely was Paul Levitz leaving his post at DC Comics. With Dan DiDio as DC's Senior Vice President, it seems he wants to show everyone that Watchmen 2 is a viable project and something that can be done. Apparently he wants to do "multiple prequel comic miniseries and spinoff ongoing projects."

Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons still have to be offered first refusal before any of these new titles could be published. They most likely won't want to take on these jobs and it looks like DiDio has actually been looking for writers to pen the new comic. From there a film would most likely follow.

At present there is a lot of speculation as to who these writers could be, why they would take on these jobs, and where a Watchmen 2 story could go. We will continue to report on this as the story develops.

UPDATE: 2/4/10 9:30 AM PST A "well-placed insider" has told Deadline Hollywood Daily that rumors of a film sequel are not true:

"There is no truth to anything related to a movie sequel. Not a chance by a longshot. With regards to the comics, well, I guess anything is possible. I'll keep my opinion to myself as to whether it's a smart idea to do so."

Watchmen was released March 6th, 2009 and stars Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Patrick Wilson, Carla Gugino, Matt Frewer. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

@ Illuminati: Currently there isn't, but from what I gather in the article they're trying to push the creation of a comic book miniseries spin-off of Watchmen, which would be the source for another film. That's how I read into it anyway.

@Gandoff: I really haven't read the Quartermain books or seen any of the old films, so I really only know the character from LoEG, which is what we're talking about. Ford really isn't a bad choice, especially seeing as he plays Indianna Jones who was, as I understand it, inspired by the character Alan Quartermain. I think that's not a bad idea, though the LoEG Quartermain would be a fair shift in personality compared to his usual roles.

A cup of black tea, eh? I should try that sometime. I'm glad to see that this is back a mature discussion on the original topic.

I also think Connery was great in it. And he really didnt have alot to work with. But if you look at the other older films, he was a normal sized man. But LOEG took him in another look direction. Connery looked more thicker, and Perlman to me looks like that mold. But as I think more on it... I think Harrison Ford would be the best in reality. Skinnier, but yet still a strong guy. Has a real mans, man, feel like Chamberlain did. But in The Lost City of Gold, there was James Earl Jones, with Sharon Stone who was in King Solomans Mines with Chamberlin also.

ParkWilliams,,, What helps me sleep is a night, is simple. A hot cup of black tea. As for this As for this Wam Bam Slam Jam, on here? Well what I know. I can't force someone who belives 100% in what they do, that I am right or anyone eles. The main reason this kept going, was simple. They was childish. And unfortianantly, I allowed myself to do the same. The old saying, "Dont judge a book by it's cover." is all this was over. Two people, tried to do that to me on may levels. So a comment thread that was ment to be discussions of this topic, turned into grade school smack talking. Why someone has to say. You F'n idiot, blah, blah, blah. you dont know nothing... Ect... Is beyond me, but I proved, that I knew more about it, then they did, and not even read the actual graphic novel or the original comics.

i'm going to avoid the ADD child on this page and get to the topic...

is there a comic sequel to WATCHMEN? if not i don't think this is a good idea.

I had mixed feelings film. it had potential because the source was brilliant. The film was very forced, preachy. Acting was stiff except for a few roles it was an average film...with a hint of greatness!

Whatever helps you sleep at night Gandoff, whatever helps.

Anyway, back on the topic of Watchmen 2 and/or the encompassing Alan Moore portfolio, I thought that Connery did a good job as Quartermain given what he had to work with. The Quartermain of the movie was not the Quartermain of the comic. As far as the Perlman, Sutherland debate, I would have to throw my lot in with Josh and say Sutherland. Perlman just doesn't seem like the right fit and I think Sutherland looks the part much more naturally than would Perlman.

well,, truth is,, I kinda like Legos to.. I felt bad for saying that.. i am sorry too.. lol... Anyone hear about the kid that almost got kicked out of school for playing with a lego gun?

Well it it used many diffrent ways. Alot of the dramatic pausing in typing, such as online,,,, ass,, was redefined in the genre such as Yahoo messnagers and such. So agine,,, ... It was made such, in Oxfords attept to define words, slang, and other forms of communication of what they dubed, "Gen X". So again,, I dont realy care about this anymore. This was all so show one that I had enough information to make my opinion on this crap hole movie. And then another idiot, and another idiot keeps stepping up. And I didn't say I played PS3, or 360 to much to read. I said I do other things such as work, and dont have the time to read, and I do other things in my free time such as PS3 and 360. And as for the added g, was simple typo. I didn't catch the key sticking on the second g. But what ever on that. So again, make sure you really read what I say before you open up another attempt to do what ever you are trying.. My god this is become more a joke then those trying to put me down.. HAHAHA.. So why bother keeping this crap going? Well I got better things to do, and better areas of this site to comment then continue to teach you all information.

...I play with legos...I take extreme offense to that...

But in my defense, it's Lego video games...which are just awesome, AND I WON'T LET YOU TELL ME OTHERWISE!!!!!!...ahem, ah...sorry

    Thank you ParkWilliams.

@ Gandoff2169: Nobody plays with Legos anymore. Plus in your first response you stated that you do not read allot because you spend more time playing 360 and PS3 yet in your second response you said that isn't all you do with your time. So you find drowning yourself in video games more productive then reading a damn book? Your entire response is beyond childish. "Laughable slam...Damn,,, I did it again... lol." That quote alone proves you are an idiot.

@Gandoff: I'm sorry, but this is getting painful.

This ,,, does not exist as a grammatical function, only this ... (three, no more, no less) and it's called an ellipsis. It is used to indicate a set of words within a phrase that have been left out because they are superfluous, often in a quote. When preceding a word that begins with a vowel, 'a' is changed to 'an'. misspell is one word, not two. Legos has one 'g' not two. Homework is also one word. You consistently use obvious sentence fragments with no predicate. Paolo was right, you do misuse your commas a lot; not in reference to the attempt at an ellipsis, but just within your sentences.

  14. Paolo Sardinas

You used three commas you f*ckin retard. Using three commas does not mean a dramatic pause, three periods means a dramatic pause. Then maybe you should learn how to use semi-colons like that you don't look like an idiot.

    2 years agoby @sardinasFlag

  15. gandoff2169

Your 15..... Oh crap,,, I used commas, and peroids wrong... Do you not know what using this,,,, or this.... means? Its called a drmatic pause. It's where one who normal uses ; or , might use many in a manner to bring the reader in such a manner to the conculsion that your thinking, when in fact your not. Your a idiot kid. High school. buddy I had a 4.2 GPA in two majors. History and Electronics. I might miss spell time to time. Every one does. But you think I sit and play games all day? OMG. Son this was getting old with Masta_Cheifed.. And once I showed I knew more on what he thought was a expert on he went on. Why don't you go play with your leggos, or maybe do your home work. Gramatical errors. Laughable slam...... Damn,,, I did it again... lol.

    @ gandoff2169:

No actually I'm a high school student. And the fact that a 15 year old has better spelling and punctuation then you is sad. As for the reading of books its just that I know how to better things with my time then drown myself in my 360 all day. Yes I do play 360 and I do play PS3 but I also manage to find time to do more productive things with my life. Though you do know more than Masta_Chiefed on this Watchmen subject, other users on here have actually read the graphic novel. And you don't have to be an English major to type correctly, I'm pretty sure you graduated high school. You should know how to put spaces in between words and when and where to use commas.

Josh.. In the older versions of the Quartermain movies. Chamberlian was a normal sized guy. In LOEG, they made Connery look extremly buff, under alot of layers of clothing. I think Ron would be able to look strong, and not need over covering to hide age. He is 60, so it's not a push to much. But Sutherland would be hard pressed to do anything physical anyway. I love Connery, but his Part was not as deep as it should have been. In the comics and the older movies, he was more, physical, and more a major role carrier of it all.

Well you could read 23 books in a year Paolo. Damn, you must be smart,,, or job less and homeless and have nothing better to do. I tend to play PS3, or my 360 alot, so I dont read 24/7. And when I am not workin a 40+ a week job at a DUI and Substance abuse clince, dealing with crying and lieing, I might have a hour before bed to read, if I am not to tired. The whole talk on anything of grammatical errors. BOYA. You got me on a big one... LOL. I never said I was a English major. I said most of my spelling was atleast right. Masta_Chiefed is just a little piss ant who acts more like a fool. And I did what I set out to in the little war of words. He said I didnt know what I was talking about when it came to watchment, yet I knew more on this, despite not reading the "graphic novel" that it was made into after the comic line was done. I would have been ok with it being done with it soon after it started, but he, like a piss ant he is, trys to make him look better at the benifit of someone eles. Thats why he went from long comments to one liners, couse he ran out of hus ussual slams. And my 23 books was not from the Dr. Seuss line you have done.

@gandoff2169: What are you talking about? I can't understand the point you're trying to make about Quartermain casting? Are you saying Sutherland is too skinny so you'd rather see Perlman?

    1. Perlman is too young for the role.
    2. Quartermain is a scrawny dude in the comic.

I just finished reading your little war of words and I must say, you're both f*cking retarded. Well actually gandoff is a little bit more retarded but either way neither of you two know what the f*ck you're talking about. Gandoff, you said to Masta_Chiefed to stop attempting to sound smart yet your posts are riddled with so many grammatical errors that its nearly impossible for anyone to take you seriously. Even if they can manage to pull out some sort of meaning from you second grade gibberish. "I've read 23 book in the last year!" Wow you're a f*ckin a genius. I can read 23 books in two months. It took you a year?

I'd love a new LoEG. Get the characters right, follow to a decent degree the events of the comic, and follow the theme of using period literature as the basis for all characters and events contained in the story. That way you get a good movie instead of the cheap bastardization the current adaptation is.

Masta_Chiefed...Your attempt to sound like your,, smart,,, is a joke. I find it even more funny that my knowing more on the subject of the origins of Watchmen, despite not reading it, and you trying to make me sound like I dont know what I am talking about, and you not disputing it, but doing yet another so called put down all the proof I need and anyone eles that you have no clue. And your trying to slam me, in a political why was poor. You say one thing now,, but if you scroll to your origian comments, you said my head was inside Channey's back end. So you might ment one thing, but you said another. So... anyway,, your a joke.... A joke that has been said so much, everyone knows the punch line, and dosnt luagh at it no more.

Josh,, Sutherland would be good, but I dont know. Connery was skinner, and through make up he looked bulky enough to be in it. Its hard for me to picture him in the same bulky muscle suit. I still think Ron P would be the best. more I think of it, the more I can see him in it

LOEG was twice the story then what was done on Watchmen. I dout it would be done though. It would have to be rebuilt from ground up due to visual effects getting better, to all the the major role of Alan Quartermain being Connery not acting no more. I watch Alan Quartermain movies with Chamberlin alot. So a older man has to fill the role for that story line. I can think of some 50 yr. old actors that could do it, but none woould pass as a 70+ Quartermain.,, Ron Pearlman could do it though. I think he would be the best over all fit, if he is not busy doing more Hellboys.

I never said the story was crap. I just hate the idea of someone recreating historical real events like he did. I hounestly like the JFK assination idea, but how the Comdian was a Villian, but allowed to be a Hero, was lame, unbeliveable, and complete horriable. No Super Hero,,, would ever,, ever allow somone to do what he did. So it all was, well,, bad....
