Channing Tatum, Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan are the three finalists for the title role

Original Story: It seems that three of the most recent candidates to play Steve Rogers and his superhero alter-ego are now the three leading candidates. IESB.net is reporting that Channing Tatum, Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan are the top three contenders to play The First Avenger: Captain America.
The site reports that Stan, who stars on the CW series Gossip Girl is currently the studio's favorite for the role. Tatum already has a franchise on his hands, with the G.I. Joe sequel currently being written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
The intriguing part of Stan being considered a favorite for the role is that Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has said in the past that The First Avenger: Captain America will be played by an American actor, and Stan is originally from Romania.
We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further tidbits on The First Avenger: Captain America casting as soon as we have more information.
Captain America: The First Avenger was released July 22nd, 2011 and stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Richard Armitage, Stanley Tucci. The film is directed by Joe Johnston.
Marvel's The Avengers comes to theaters May 4th, 2012 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr., Cobie Smulders, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

I don't think he could make a very good captain america. I think someone like Josh Duhamel from Transformers or Timothy Olyphant from Hitman would be a better choice. Channing Tatum would be a horrible choice

This guy could rock as Capt America. Who know, he might come out as like Heath Ledger where some think he would stink as the joker but ended up blowing people away with a fantastic performance. He could come out like Heath Ledger but not End like him. R.I.P man.

Hell no, he is way to young to be Cap, and way to sarcastic to be him. He is not Cap material, Sorry Chris maybe they will make an Arch Angel in the new X-men : first class that's more your look. I would go with Jarret Butler. If they ever make Dante's inferno live action film Jarrett Butler would rock that role. I'm going to be upset if they make more cap movies with the same lame as actor. It better be good. When the avengers comes out its going to be huge. So the Cap the leader has to be bad ass for that role!!!

Didn't like the film Push with Chris Evens was a load of Rubbish, he was ok in The Fantastic Four. I don't think there were anygood actor put up for this role has Captain America.

@insertusernamehere: He was supposed to be a more serious character in Cellular but I found him equally annoying in that movie. You can see my Fantastic Four thread for why I think he WASN'T the best performance in the FF movies, but that's not important here. You put Chris Evans next to Robert Downey Jr. and he's going to be invisible.
I'd definitely rather see Evans than Channing Tatum, though. As much as Evans' screen presence is annoying at least he has some. Channing Tatum is like watching an egg carton on screen.

@Chickenpox, Johnny Storm is a sarcastic ladies man. He was only doing what the script told him to do, and he pretty much nailed it. He was the best performance of those movies(which isn't saying much, but still). Cap is a very different character, but it's one that I think he can do. Just cast him and dye his hair blond...and let's get this going!

There were worse people mentioned for the role. Yes, he has already been The Human Torch. Which, is a shame. Cause you would like to see a new face for every new character they bring out. But i like him as an actor, and he fits the bill for the Capt.

If I'm not mistaken, Evans is the a**wipe from Fantastic 4 who who thought every line he uttered was a chance to be an absolute tool, and the reason why I didn't bother with the sequel. They'd better scrape up some budget money and cast someone who isn't made of foamcore if they wan't my anticipat-o-meter needle to move...or anyone else's for that matter.
