Universal Pictures Set to Remake Slap Shot

Dean Parisot is set to direct a remake of Slap Shot for Universal Pictures. According to Variety, Peter Steinfeld is writing the screenplay, which will be based on the classic 1977 hokey comedy.

The original film followed the exploits of a fading hokey coach (played by Paul Newman) who decides to turn his team into a group of brawling thugs to generate some interest in them. In recent years, the original film has spawned two direct-to-DVD sequels. But this new film will have no ties to those past projects.

There is no set start date for the Slap Shot redo, but the Hanson brothers, who starred in the first film, will more than likely have a cameo.

    Alright... Normally I LOVE remakes, but why remake such a classic film? So far I've heard news about three remakes that make me want to puke, and they are: "Arthur," causing Dudley Moore to turn in his grave, "The Crow," causing Brandon Lee to turn in HIS grave, and NOW we've got "Slap Shot," which, as Cell has pointed out, is causing Paul Newman to turn in his grave. Oh, and I forgot about the "Predator" remake... Which is VERY unnecessary. Not that I won't see it, or am mad at it, it's just that I don't think it's necessary to remake that particular movie at this present moment in time.

    Anyway, I digress... Come on people... Really?

    f*ck that. if they change the story im gonna be real pissed off. they filmed this in my hometown, was based off of our hometown team. i know all the bars newman went to and the actual history of the hanson brothers. f*ck.

    which is worse? that they are making this remake, or that ppl will pay to see it? stay at home and rent it instead than support this type of crap. We are the reason Hollywood continues on this trend....the consumer.
