Universal Eyeing Maximum Ride

Universal to take Maximum Ride
Universal to take Maximum Ride
Universal is eyeing James Patterson's book Maximum Ride, which Columbia was previously developing. Catherine Hardwicke remains attached to direct, according to Heat Vision.

Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby will be developing a new script.

The books chronicle six teens known as the Flock who are genetically altered so they are part human and part bird. Learning to fly, they escape the laboratory where they have been housed and are pursued by a pack of creatures called the Erasers that are part human and part wolf.

No production date has been set.

Maximum Ride comes to theaters in 2013.

    Oh man. I loved this series when I read it a while back. I was basically addicted to them, James Patterson is an amazing writer with both his young adult novels and adult novels. But now I see Hardwicke's name attached and I am crushed. Why can't this popular book series find a director worthy of itself? Now I am not so sure about this.... :(

    Anything with Hardwicke's name on it will in all likelihood, be trash.

    @thejoker-16: According to Wikipedia (I googled The Ranger's Apprentice, having previously never heard of the series), United Artists has the rights to The Ruins of Gorlan, and Paul Haggis (Crash) is slated to direct. It appears to be in developmental hell. Shame; sounds like it'd make a good movie, especially with Haggis at the helm.

    @Dedpool: Ha! Bad pun :P

    I haven't read the Series myself, but a friend of mine has, and he said they're fairly enjoyable. I wouldn't mind seeing something like this.

    Although, they SHOULD make The Ranger's Apprentice Series into some Movies :D :D
