Under the Dome goes to Showtime
DreamWorks Television will produce this adaptation, which follows a group of Maine residents who become trapped under a giant force field that closes them off from the rest of the world.
A writer for the project is currently being sought. It is unclear if this will be conceived for the small screen as a miniseries, or if it will become a regular seasonal series.
It is not clear at this time when the series will premiere on Showtime.

I haven't seen an episode of The Walking Dead. It's in the queue.

@dan1 @shuabert Trust me, it won't bomb, Greg Nicotero has been named co-executive producer to take over Darabont's place is what I heard, which sounds good :)

@shuabert Ah, well that blows. I hope we're not reflecting this time next year about how TWD was brilliant in it's freshman season and then totally dropped the ball.

Solid news here, hope they do it right but since it's Showtime, they should be able to.

@dan1 Yeah, it was widely publicized a couple weeks back. AMC wanted to cut budgets on all their shows, and Darabont fought them on how much that would limit him -- they wanted him to do several episodes in one location where you only heard zombies outside and couldn't see them. When Darabont said he thought that was stupid, they fired him. It definitely seems he got the sh*ttiest deal in all of those negotiations, because they made concessions for Matt Weiner when he fought them on Mad Men budget cuts, and the eventually gave Breaking Bad a longer season for its last when they were trying to make it a shorter season. I guess they cut the budget on Walking Dead by not having to pay Darabont anymore. I can't imagine he was cheap to have as a showrunner.

depends on the focus of the story. if it is on the lives of the people in the bubble then a tv series works better. if it is on their quest to be free from the bubble, then a miniseries is the better format. either way, i'm looking forward to this.

@shuabert So he *was* fired, then? I was under the impression he left because he didn't like the television medium. Huh. That's too bad, if you watched any of the extras on season 1 of TWD, he was like the most laid back dude you could meet.

@watson-mcflyy Yes, Frank Darabont, the go-to guy for Stephen King adaptations, and recently fired from The Walking Dead.

Well, Darabont is free. :/
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
I own this novel, but I haven't read it yet. I'll be keeping an eye on this project, though.
