Sony Pictures has hired Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance co-director Brian Taylor to write and direct upcoming video game to live action adaptation, Twisted Metal.

The film, and the game, revolve around an underground event that pits a number of combatants in a fight to the death. They are outfitted in armored weaponized cars that are pimped out with heavy weaponry that includes missiles and machine guns. Some drop mines or launch electrical charges. The proprietor of the race is Calypso, a string-puller dedicating to examining the human condition, such as what makes a peaceful man violent, what terrifies a violent man and who will make a Faustian bargain in which they risk their lives. The sole survivor will get any wish granted.

The film is said to include signature contestant character Sweet Tooth, a homicidal clown who drives an ice cream truck, and Doll Face, a young woman who is trapped behind a porcelain mask and who drives an 18-wheeler.

The project is still in early development, stay tuned for more details.

Twisted Metal comes to theaters in 2014.

Ghost Rider spirit of Vengeance looks to have some great car/bike chases so this is an obvious win for Sony. I just wish they'd hurry up with the Uncharted movie!

This being adapted as a movie is an automatic fail. It's like making Mario Cart for the big screen. They can't be serious...

@ChiRep-1 Exactly I was thinking the same thing. Death Race was already similar. No need to make this movie.

I could never get myself to play the game, I have a fear of clowns. Hell I had to shut my eye's when I was watching the last episode of supernatural. For the clown scene's
