Universal Pictures Chairman Adam Fogelson and Co-Chairman Donna Langley announced some breaking news about a popular Hasbro brand today.

Taylor Lautner (The Twilight Saga) will play the title character in the upcoming 3D superhero adventure Stretch Armstrong, to be released in 2012.

Stretch Armstrong is moving to 2012 to allot time to shape the project into a 3D superhero adventure and to accommodate Lautner's existing commitments.

"In the past two years, Taylor has emerged as a real star at the global box office. He brings the perfect balance of energy and athleticism to the role of an unlikely super hero with a fantastic super power," said Langley. "We couldn't be more pleased that he has agreed to be our Stretch."

Stretch Armstrong is based on the iconic action figure made popular around the world beginning in the 1970s and re-launched in the 1990s. Academy Award-winning producer Brian Grazer will team with Hasbro to bring Stretch Armstrong to life. Steve Oedekerk has written the screenplay, and Hasbro's Goldner and Schneir also produce.

Stretch Armstrong comes to theaters April 11th, 2014. The film is directed by Rob Letterman.

I mean seriously. The movie execs should walk into a Borders or a Barnes and Noble and just look around. There are so many things they can make into movies. But no they just decide to make a movie about a Abercrombie & Fitch model on steroids.

glad i'm not the only one with that reaction. i can't believe this is real. here's hoping they put him in more than a speedo.
you know why they are doing this in 3D - they are going to do what 3D should - bring the film to the audience's face... having lautner's arms and legs stretching completely off the screen to make the audience think they're gonna get slapped or kicked. good idea (at least for the use of 3D - hollywood take note), but NO IDEA how they are gonna make a whole movie based on a dude in a speedo.
