Tron: Legacy star Garrett Hedlund confirmed today that he will star in the Untitled Tron Legacy Sequel. Here's what he had to say, while doing press for his new drama On the Road.

"Yeah, are we gonna break this now? Disney's very excited. That's about that. You know, yeah, I'm very excited, Disney's very excited."

We reported last week that Eragon writer Jesse Wigutow has been hired to rewrite the script, originally written by David DiGilio. No plot details have been released as of yet.

Joseph Kosinski is returning to direct, with sources indicating that this sequel may start principal photography in 2014. Tron: Legacy took in $172 million at the domestic box office, and earned just over $400 million worldwide.

Tron 3 comes to theaters in 2016 and stars Olivia Wilde, Cillian Murphy, Garrett Hedlund, Bruce Boxleitner, Cindy Morgan, Nathan Corddry. The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski.

@bawnian-dexeus - That's true. I know for certain the film won't come out in 2014 if they start filming then because Disney isn't that lazy. It is possible, but it most likely would look sh*tty in the end.

@moviemaniac66 First one began principle photography in April so it would be best to have a good amount of time for the effects department. Nobody is that fast nor should they be rushed, unless you want a Revenge of the Fallen

@felipe-11 - Who said that they are doing that to fit moviewebs timeframe? I sure didn't. I just said that it could be possible.

  4. MovieManiac

@bawnian-dexeus - Depends on how effects heavy. Some movies do special effects early on before filming. Tron Legacy started its effects way before filming. Same for the film Rango. They could have done that for this, who knows.

the movie will most likely come out December 2015. Disney will have the Avengers 2, the new Star Wars movie, and a Pixar movie all in the summer in 2015 they just need to fill in the holiday slot.

It says in the article that this sequel may start principal photography in 2014 so if that is the case, then wouldn't that mean that the sequel would be released to theaters in 2015 rather then in 2014 ?

@dan1 One of the worst movies, i have ever seen, Disney is trusting this guy with the rewrites, but that was 6 years ago, let's see what he brings to the table this time.
