    @thedude-abides -- Glad we have an understanding. I thought for a second there that people thought I was Mr. Kiss-Ass, lol. But, hey, at least I have one person that I know shares a similar taste and outlook when it comes to film.

    @XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Lol. Too true.

    And don't worry. You have you're own ideas on things. We just share a common outlook on movies (which is nice considering most people on here tend to agree with one another).

    @thedude-abides -- Again, I agree. it really depends on how you look at it. They deserve every bit of success they get, but critically speaking, it's a mess. It's pretty sad that most people don't know quality entertainment when they see it, so guys like us get bombarded with shows like Glee, Jersey Shore, 16 and Pregnant, and so on. Along with movies like Transformers, Saw, Paranormal Activity, and tons of remakes and neutered horror movies. But when something like "The Dark Knight" or "Inception" come out, something that actually(somehow) appeals to them, it's the greatest movie ever!

    Propaganda is a bitch.

    I honestly don't know if people are born with good/great/outstanding taste in cinema, or if they(very few) evolve to understand and differentiate good from bad. Standards play a prime factor in the mix, too. That, along with tolerance and just how critical they are.

    Life is extremely odd.

    Not to be a "yes man"(I hold that brutally honest trait at times, so I'd like to consider myself more of an honest guy than a "hater" or "yes man", and I think you('ll) see that over the course of me being apart of this site), but I agree. Christoper Nolan has done an amazing job with the sequel(wait for "The Dark Knight Rises" to comment on the trilogy), and I'm glad he's wrapping it up with a conclusion.

    @XxNickTheFilmCriticXx I tend to face the hype argument by how much success a film achieves (awards, praise from peers, etc.) vs. what the public thinks (fan reaction, box office). I think it's a much easier barometer. The public doesn't know much anyway -- about anything. So why should their knowledge of movies be any different? Everybody's got an opinion; the problem is that most people don't have any perspective.

    As for Nolan's films, I can't really comment because you're basing your argument off the fan reaction. Looking at it in that kaleidoscope, I tend to agree with you. But based on the level of success his films have achieved, I think he and his films stand where they should.

    My inner circle of movie friends (all extremely knowledgable) and I can't wait for Nolan to be done with Batman. We love what he did with the genre, but it's time for him (and Bale for that matter) to move on to more serious projects. I'm hoping Howard Hughes.

    @thedude-abides -- Agreed. But I think nearly every movie directed by Christoper Nolan, along with Batman itself, is overrated. "Memento" is a great movie, but a lot of people tend to put it in their top-ten movies of all-time lists, and the score it has on IMDb is absolutely appalling. The same goes for "Batman Begins", "The Dark Knight", "The Prestige", and "Inception". All of them are great, nearly outstanding movies that people tend to put so much unnecessary hype behind.

    As for Batman itself, that's another overrated mention. Not only when it comes to the latest installments, but the video games. It's like Christoper Nolan and Batman are cursed with being over-praised, and when you put them together, you have the most overrated movies of all-time("Inception", "The Dark Knight", and arguably "Memento".

    @XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Yeah, they hype surrounding any Christopher Nolan movie is going to be stupid. We have Batman to thank for that. He's a top 10 director, but he ain't the best.

    To say Inception ain't my favorite movie ever would be no stretch, let's just put it like that. The story is very convoluted, and the direction at times a bit frenetic. Still very original and very enjoyable, however. I give it a 3.0/4.0

    Most Sci-fi films I do enjoy but there are some I don't care about.
    Watch the older films 'Flash Gordan' and so on, they are good but cheesy as well.

    Why did you cut ties with Cronenberg's Cosmopolis for this Colin Farrell? You had the lead role and would have been excellent portraying it.

    @thedude-abides -- Hard to say. "Inception" had it's moments; the entire sequence near the end(the elevator/bus/mission sequence) were breathtaking, and absolutely stunning. That sequence made the movie for me, and the ending was a nice addition.

    I guess the hype sometimes clutters my view on "Inception", even though I think it's a great movie. I found all three movies boring, though. "Inception" was extremely confusing for the first-30 minutes; I was thinking "What the f*ck is going on here?" for that entire duration of the movie. After that, it began to pick up quite nicely.

    "Moon" was memorable, for me. I didn't enjoy watching it as nearly as much as I wanted to, but it serves as a great after-thought. Sam Rockwell was astounding in it, and I loved the cinematography and the premise. A very unique, finely made film.

    "District 9" was probably the most enjoyable experience, overall. The CGI was outstanding, and so was the acting(arguably). It blended comedy with drama, and was wrapped in a sci-fi layer - brilliant! The transformation was f*cking awesome, and the emotional elements were very effective, and stick with me to this very day. The whole movie was - without a doubt - brilliant, and very original.

    @thedude-abides -- Both of those sound awesome. But it's going to be really tough for them to surpass "District 9" and "Moon", in my opinion.

  20. thedude-abides

    @XxNickTheFilmCriticXx District 9 was great; Moon was just okay, but not bad by any means.

    The Europa Report stars Sharlito Copley (District 9), and is about a mission to Europa, one of Jupiter's many moons, in search of intelligent life.

    Looper comes out September 28th. It stars Joseph Gordon Levitt and Bruce Willis and is directed by Rian Johnson (probably the best known unknown director out there). It's a science fiction/action film where victims of time traveling hit men are targeted and sent back through time to be disposed of.

    The premise of the film revolves around JGL discovering that his next target is a future version of himself -- played by Bruce Willis. I've been on record as saying it'll be this year's version of Drive in that it'll be the breakout role JGL's long been waiting for, and it'll be the film that launches Rian Johnson into the realm of directorial superstardom, a la Ryan Gosling and Winding Refn in 2011.

    @dan1 -- I knew I was forgetting something.

    @thedude-abides -- Looper? I can't wait for Elysium, but I haven't heard of The Europa Report or Looper. What are the premises? I'll take you thought "Moon" and "District 9" were alright movies, nothing more, nothing less?

    @zender -- You said haters, which could constitute as people that don't think this will wind up being a good movie. I haven't seen the original, and it's not the idea of a remake that is giving me the motive to dismiss the movie entirely. I thought the first 30 seconds - 1 minute of the trailer were alright, but I don't think it will wind up being anything worth while.

    "Moon" and "District 9" were the only Sci-Fi movies that managed to impress within the last few years. Besides those two, Sci-Fi movies haven't been so kind to us lately. Let's hope "Prometheus" will be everything it has shown itself to be(and more). This may become a surprisingly good movie, or even a guilty pleasure, at that.

    One can only hope.
