Tony Gilroy to Rewrite Red Dawn

In a story from Latino Review, it seems that Oscar nominated writer Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton) is rewriting MGM/UA's remake of Red Dawn.

Dan Bradley is directing this film.

Apparently, Gilroy turned in a 107 page draft that was "dated 06-01-09." The initial remake was written by Carl Ellsworth and Jeremy Passmore.

The original Red Dawn was the Cold War brainchild of writer-director John Milius, who devised a World War III invasion of America by the Soviets and Cubans. The film followed the scrappy insurgency of a group of Midwestern teenagers who take on their high school mascot name -- "Wolverines!" -- as a rallying cry of resistance.

Red Dawn will start shooting in September with a planned release date of Sept. 24, 2010.

Red Dawn comes to theaters November 2nd, 2012 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Adrianne Palicki, Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, Josh Peck, Brett Cullen, Matt Gerald. The film is directed by Dan Bradley.
