Let the Right One in director Tomas Alfredson is set to direct Nicole Kidman in The Danish Girl, a drama about the first sex-change operation in 1930s Denmark.

According to Variety, the script is written by Lucinda Coxon, and is based on David Ebershoff's novel about Danish painter Einar Wegener (Kidman), who in 1931 became the first person to go through a sex-change operation to become a woman.

Charlize Theron, who had been attached to play Wegener's wife, Gerda, is no longer attached to the production.

The film will be produced by Kidman and Per Saari, head of Kidman's Fox-based Blossom Films shingle, along with Anne Harrison, Gail Mutrix and Linda Reisman.

No production date has been set.

The Danish Girl was released in 2009.
