Tom Hardy recently appeared on Alan Carr's Channel 4 talk show Alan Carr: Chatty Man, which airs in the UK (Thanks to Batman-News.com for the heads up). The actor talked for the first time about playing Bane in Christopher Nolan's upcoming The Dark Knight Rises, and while he didn't have a whole lot to say about the plot of this highly anticipated sequel, he did drop a few hints at what we can expect.

Tom Hardy stated that this version of Bane will be a lot more threatening.

"Have you seen Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin? Doesn't look very menacing does he? Christopher Nolan will revisit the character so I wouldn't go by that at all. I'm going to need to bulk up a lot for it. That's a lot of weight to put on and I've got to start shooting in May. I've got to go up to about 13 or 14 stone. I'm 12 and a bit now, so I only have a few months to do that."

Tom Hardy was then asked if he would don Bane's gimp-style luchadore mask in The Dark Knight Rises.

"Only if I feel like it!"

The entire Tom Hardy interview will be available tomorrow at the official Alan Carr: Chatty Man website.

The Dark Knight Rises was released July 20th, 2012 and stars Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

I'm sure Hardy will manage to put the weight on. With the right excercise and skilled instructor, it is certainly possible. Also excited to see how his Bane will turn out. He is fast becoming one of my favourite actors, so I'm looking forward to seeing clips/tv spots/ trailers (even though I know they're far off).

I'm hoping for the TDKR trailer to debut with MI4; I already plan to be first in line to see that film, so that would just make it even better.

And I'm also hyped for Anne's Catwoman. She's one of my favourite actresses and is very talented as well as beautiful, so IMO she was a smart choice.

Nolan may or may not choose to have Hardy wear the mask. He'll also make sure to keep it as realistic as possible (in line with the rest of the series). He alone will guarantee TDKR will not turn out a steaming pile of hot mess.

@dan1 Anne Hathaway has a pretty banging body as can be seen in Havoc. I have always thought her face was odd but honestly Saline Kyle is a bit strange. I dont have your fears at all concerning how she will look in the suit and she definatly has the chops to pull off the character but i will be happy when you can put your fears to rest. I would have never thought of her for the part and that is something interesting about Nolan....casting against type. Robin Williams in Insomnia, Heath Ledger in TDK. I cant wait till we see some pics. I will be interested to hear what you have to say.

@jasonkat Only problem there is that Nolan's trend has been to modify the villains to fit the "real world". I know you were just throwing that out there, though.

I'm sure they'll come to an acceptable compromise the way they have with all the villains thus far. I'm honestly not worried about Hardy pulling off Bane. Hathaway playing Catwoman has me a bit at unease. I'm ALL for her getting the role, and at the end of the day I'm betting Nolan will craft her into a Selina Kyle we haven't seen before but respect all the same, as he's done with the other characters. But, I'm anxious to see clips and photos to put any fears of mine to complete rest. As I said, I'm behind the decision, and this fanboy is drooling at the prospect, but we'll see :)

@TheNarrator its hard but its not that hard. to get results for your body 20% of it is from the gym and 80% of it is what you put in your body after your workout. Supplements are going to help him out a lot and his diet in general

  22. the Narrator

Some folk make impossible tasks look easy. While I can name several people, I'll just say that the people behind this film (Nolan, Bale, Hardy, etc) are some of those people. It may sound easy, but as a guy who does likes to work out, it's pretty f*cking hard to gain weight that fast, given certain circ*mstances. So huge props to the guy, and everyone else aboard.

ya know, i liked the bane from "batman & robin" but hated the way they used him. but i liked his looks and stuff, he looked just like the cartoon guy and action figure. but sadly his character was boring, they made him look like a retard. with no depts.
