I agree with Illuminati. I think the movies get slightly worse in quality from the first to the third, but I do like how they've all had their own stlye due to switching directors every time. In a series like this without a running narrative it works.

the first movie had the best story! it was did have slight issue with the pace, but it was a true espionage spy story with defactors double/triple agents/ multiple villians, plus the best break in scene in a long time! Bryan De Palma did it in style! No MTV editing of the 2nd 3rd film!

the 2nd was a typical John Woo film, and decent within his relam. but can't be take too seriously, but fun none the less.

the 3rd lacked a good villian. they truly underused the brilliant Seymor Hoffman on that! Action was good, and overall film was fun...but the ending and the whole wife angle was COMPLETELY useless and unnecessary. Infact it unhinged the feel of IMF and lefts a sequel quite shady.

An easy alternative would have been keep the focus on HUNT trying to rescue Kerri Russell character, and after she's killed to make it a revenge plot.

just kill the wife and make it a rough revenge story for the sequel.

    ooh awesome
here's my take on this franchise:
1st movie: boring until the end
2nd movie: ridiculous but action packed and fun
3rd movie: pretty straightforward and a great summer flick

the 4th movie better keep going with the slickness and action
Tom Cruise, wonder what he can do next

I wasn't expecting the "Mission: Impossible" trilogy to continue! I thought the 3rd film was the last one to conclude the series, but I'd love to check this movie out since I enjoyed the other 3 movies.
