Michael Mann was once attached to the project back in 2011. The story centers on the racing rivalry between Ford and Ferrari in 1966.

Tom Cruise and his Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski are both circling the racing drama Go Like Hell for 20th Century Fox.

We first reported on the project back in 2011, when Michael Mann was nearing a deal to direct, although it doesn't appear that he is still involved. The drama is based on A.J. Baime's book Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, And Their Battle For Speed And Glory At Le Mans, which followed Ford's decision to challenge Ferrari's dominance at the 24-hour LeMans race. The Ford team lead by Henry Ford II, Lee Iacocca and Carroll Shelby developed the Ford GT40 in 1966, which became the first American-made sports car to win LeMans. The car went on to win the next four LeMans races.

Jason Keller (Escape Plan, Machine Gun Preacher) is one of numerous writers who have worked on the screenplay. No production schedule was given.

We reported last week that Joseph Kosinski is directing an untitled action-thriller for Media Rights Capital, although it isn't known when that project will come together. He also has The Twilight Zone, The Black Hole and Tron 3 in development.

Go Like Hell is in development and stars Tom Cruise. The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski.

It seems like an unusual movie for Kosinski...but then again, he doesn't have a long track record and I feel like he is just barely getting his footing. I will be very interested to see how he brings the 1966 world of Le Mans to the big screen.
