Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Headed for the Big Screen

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell may be headed to the big screen
Ubisoft is in talks with Paramount to develop a big screen adaptation of their best selling video game, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. Warner Bros. briefly eyed the project, but quickly lost interest.

The stealth action games follow covert operative Sam Fisher, who is part of a top-secret branch of the National Security Agency called the Third Echelon. The series currently has six installments, with a seventh title currently in the works called Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist, expected to debut in mid-2013.

Paramount is a front runner for the movie rights, but it is relatively unlikely that a deal will be made soon considering the inherent complications that are involved with a project like this. Video game adaptations have not done very well in the past, and Ubisoft will have a tight grip on how the film gets translated.

The novelist has other projects in the works at Paramount. They are producing a reboot of the Jack Ryan franchise, starring Chris Pine, and a spinoff of another novel by the author titled Without Remorse that follows a mercenary named John Clark

No deals have been made yet so stay tuned to find out if the film will come to fruition.

This would never happen but it would be cool if David Fincher directed this...

I love these games. if they make it into a movie, hopefully they'll do it right. @felipe-11 haha Savages reminded me of Army of Two too. as soon as i saw those masks i knew. i like the comparisons but i would really love to see a Mass Effect movie though

    @rudy Sadly, I agree :(
Some of them have been in development hell for over a decade now. But hey, just like comic-book movies were barely happening for years before the 2000s, maybe one day video-game movies will really take off.

For the meanwhile you'll just have to settle:

Call of Duty: Act of Valor
    Uncharted: Indiana Jones
    Deus Ex: Blade Runner
    Army of Two: Savages?
    Dead Space: Pandorum?
    Mass Effect: Star Trek

This isn't gonna happen and this isn't news. A teaser trailer for Splinter Cell the movie made by paramount came out in 2005-2006.

@JuniorRoberts No they don't. They need to leave MGS the hell alone! Hollywood can't even handle a simple revenge storyline of Max Payne, do you think they can handle a complicated story like MGS? With multiple characters & subplots? I mean yeah it would be really awesome if they were able to do an awesome adaptation, with the perfect cast & everything but they should just leave it alone.

Splinter Cell has a good base story to work off of, but I'm more excited to hear they are finally getting some movement on Without Remorse, which is one of my all time favorite books. John Clark is pure bada$$. It's been a long time since I've heard anything on it being turned into a film. The last traction I saw on it was back a couple of years after the book came out when Clint Eastwood was trying to option it as directorial vehicle for himself. I was bummed when he turned his attention elsewhere.

I've always wanted a Splinter Cell movie, I remember how excited I was when they released a teaser trailer for the movie in Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and then they cancelled it.

But honestly, if they're gonna come out with some crap like Hitman then just leave it alone...
