Tobey Maguire Makes Unprecedented Deal for Spider-Man 4 & 5

Movie Picture
Tobey Maguire may be Spider-Man, but before that he's a Family Man. The actor who played Peter Parker and his webbed alter-ego in the first three Spider-Man films has signed a deal for his appearance in Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5, and according to the Times Online, he has a clause in his contract that gives him time off specifically to spend with his daughter.

Maguire, who will film the two movies back-to-back over six months has insisted that he get early mornings and evenings off to play with his daughter, Ruby, who is 22 months old. Maguire will earn $50m in salary and profit shares from the two movies.

Apparently Sony was weary of giving Maguire the family time, for fear of setting a precedent. However Sony Chairman, Amy Pascal, stepped in saying that six months without family time would be unfair to any parent.

"Tobey admits he is obsessive-compulsive about everything he does, and raising Ruby is no different," a friend of Maguire's said. "There's no way Tobey would allow work, no matter how well paid, to get between him and Ruby, and Sony realized that."

Sony is expected to reveal in the next few days whether or not Kirsten Dunst will be returning as Mary-Jane Watson.

Directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Willem daFoe, Alfred Molina, Topher Grace and Thomas Hayden Church, the first three Spider-Man films redefined the modern superhero movie, and paved the way for the success of later superhero films like Iron Man and The Dark Knight. Spider-Man 4 is scheduled for an April 30, 2011 release.

Spider-man 4 is in development .

I think they already did the whole dark side thing with the symbiote. Iron Man can't go dark because of the improvised dialogue thats too funny to have taken... Favreau said he wants to work in Tony becoming an alcoholic which would probably be the somewhat darkness...
I'm a little late but the m_man person says its the script writer's fault for how Maguire acts as P.P./S.M.
Thats not true, the script writer, writes the dialog, the set, actions, emotions and its up to the actor to portray those as best as he can...
I look forward to Sony redeeming "SPider-Man 3" I want this one to top the original, and it is very rare to top the first, except in The Dark Knight's case, and The Incredible Hulk.
Sam Raimi needs to step up his A-game. Bring ONE villain, that WILL defeat Spidey, like how Rocky is great because he did all that work for Apollo Creed to beat him... Make the villain a challenge like Green Goblin in the first.

    Nice one Agent.

Notice that Iron Man helped raise the bar along with The Dark Knight this year, but Iron Man wasn't even dark. Don't hope for a "darker" Spider-man people. It's not going to happen.

And what are you talking about, Savage? Dark knight is #2 on the all time box office list. Joker and Two-Face did not "win". You just shot yourself in the foot my friend. You can redeem yourself by giving us a few examples of what these "BEST" movies of all time are?

For the record, not one of the top 50 all times had the "bad guys" win. Please, enlighten us here :)

notice to movie companies : some of the BEST movies of all time, the 'bad guys' win, ever notice that? it just gets annoying when the good guys always win...so overdone, so 90s. so welfare.

It seemed to me that third movie was rushed. They didn't give venom any type of justice. Maybe the fourth will be darker, and more risque' ala dark knight series. Iron Man and Dark Knoght has really raised the bar, so hopefully the folks at Spiderman will take notes and bring it. I say bring on the scorpion, or maybe the shocker.

It is the script writer to blame for the way tobey has portrayed peter parker, anyway he's got 50 mil in his pocket so whats the harm in making spider-man 4,5 maybe 6

No way, War, its because he's a pussie Parker. Peter was never a crybaby and Tobey also doesn't make ANY wisecracks, 'cept for his awful "I'm the Sheriff of these parts" gay comment. Give us a scientific, believably smart PP and a wisecracking Spidey that doesn't sound fruity.

My choice takes this in an entirely different direction than it will take. That includes Mysterio and Morbius, and Kraven as sort of a clincher villain.

If Mysterio was Bruce Campbell he'd be able to carry the movie lol. I know they could easily tie The Lizard in with Carnage but they are two 'beasts', they are too similiar in that regards. If I'm not mistaken, I don't think the studio would want such identical personalities as the main villians. You would think they would just because they were fans of the comics but studios are weird. I remember when they said they didn't want Gambit in the X-Men movies because his personality was too much like Wolverine's and Cyclops put together. I remember me screaming "that's f*cking gay!" Lol. So it just goes to show they want "diversity" in their characters apparantly.

Well you all are naming very interesting villains, and have your own unique takes on them and their stories, that is for sure.

My personal fav's put aside, I doubt that Sony and Marvel Studios will use some of the two-dimensional characters that do not have cinematic appeal. For instance, if you look at all three films for reference, it seems that they are going with villains who have an emotional storyline where Spidey can appeal to them in the climax. That is, with the exception of Venom, who Avi Arad pushed for (thankfully he's out, and Kevin Feige is in). The Lizard is the obvious next villain, with Connors in "3" is seen in his lab with reptilian sh*t in the background. There is the debate of the mysterious second villain. As well, what new characters they will introduce now that Harry is gone, and who/what may be set up for "5", as the two film's scripts call for a consecutive filming, meaning "4" will end on a cliffhanger leading into "5".

I'd have to say that Carnage hasn't been proven to be a certainty, as the producers/writer could simply 'overlook' the fact that Connors has a thread of the original Venom symbiote. I would say that for two more films, they have got to be looking at Spidey's most notorious and more famous villains out of the bunch. Carnage is a possibility, but would it feel like a recycled storyline? Or would they save him for the "Venom" spin-off? Mysterio is up there, but rather two-dimensional, Chameleon, can't do Jackal without the Clone story (which I doubt they'll do), Vulture (continuing the business aspect?? Taking over for OsCorp??), Scorpion (Jameson storyline??). Somehow I doubt most of these, even though they are major villains. A lot of the others seem like "side villains" and don't seem like they could carry a movie. The other major, major ones I have to say would be The Black Cat and Carnage. They are both integral to the web-slinger's story and would be missed opportunities for the frachise if not done in some way.

Sorry for the rant. There's my 2 cents/sense.

Wesley Snipes is out of jail and filming movies. We should all know by now that these damn celebrities don't stay in jail long. I've read somewhere that once he's done suing Goyer for the screen time he had to share in Blade 3 that he would like to do a 4th.

  28. Vamp

Hmmmm, well Chad, I think that you'd kind of have to do a deal with both of them. Since Dr. Connors is the one who has the last remaining bit of Symbiote, which is almost CERTAINLY going to turn into Carnage, I guarantee that. Also, it's about time that Dr. Connors began trying to fix his arm. I mean, the subtle references with him are enough now. It's time to bring him in, and I think that they could both work good together, even if they're NOT trying to rip the sh*t out of each other. I still say that Morbius would be an excellent contribution to the series. CBF just informed me on my page of how Spidey had to team up with Blade to stop him and Shriek. Mayhaps Mr. Snipes could have a bit in a movie? LOL! Too bad they got him on Tax Evasion and he's serving three years. Anyway, Mysterio is my main choice. He's cool. LOL!
