The Los Angeles Times is reporting that James Cameron is converting his blockbuster film Titanic into 3D to re-release April 2012, the 100th anniversary of the ship's sinking.

The RMS Titanic set sail from Southampton, England, on April 10th 1912, and then struck an iceberg and sank four days into the trip, on April 14th 1912.

Brock Lovett is a treasure hunter looking for a famous diamond among the debris of the Titanic. He finds a sketch in a safebox in which a young woman is wearing the diamond on a necklace. After showing the drawing on a TV program, Rose Dawson, an old lady comes forward claiming to be the woman in the drawing. She is brought to the explorer's vessel to help them determine the location of the diamond, but instead she tells everyone the "real" story of Titanic's sinking. She was a 17 year-old rich girl sailing to the USA to get married with Cal Hockley. Her mother was forcing her to get married so she felt trapped inside her own world. During the trip she tries to commit suicide and she is saved by Jack Dawson, a third-class passenger who travels around making pencil drawings. They get to know each other better until they fall in love. Hockley and Rose's mother try to separate them several times. Amidst all this confusion the Titanic hits an iceberg and starts to sink.

Titanic was released April 4th, 2012 and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, Frances Fisher, Gloria Stuart, Bill Paxton, Bernard Hill. The film is directed by James Cameron.

He seems like a snob to me and a kid at the same time. It seems he likes to have his way a lot.
That's the reason why I like his films, a brat that wants everything.
James must have been spoiled to death when he was a kid.

This is probably my favorite movie and I've always wanted to see it on the big screen (I didn't when I was a kid), so I'll watch this for sure, 3D or 2D

Why can't some people leave well enough alone?!!He's going against the reason Titanic went down in the first place....Technoilogy isn't always what it's cracked up to be.....I guess we havn't learned that leason yet.........OH WELL!!!

@Diaigma so he can make even more money with a lot less work. reconfiguring a film for 3D is no where near as hard OR RISKY (financially speaking, b/c he knows the built in audience is gonna swarm theaters again) as developing another epic film.
not sure how i feel about this. i hate 3D, but would be curious if he adds anything to it.

@Marcusx - What do you mean he just has to beat the Dark Knight? "Avatar" and "Titanic" are the top two highest-grossing films of all time. He doesn't have to beat "The Dark Knight." He kinda already has.

A lot of people are talking about how 3D might be a fad and will go away in a few years. Some think that it will stay around forever. Since there have been two different eras for 3D in the past (the '50s and '80s) that ended with people losing interest, I'm still saying it's a fad... for now. However, I also think that even if 3D catches on for good, it will not be the end of 2D films. The question about whether or not 3D will be here to stay depends on how it does in the home entertainment arena. With new TVs and Blu-Ray players, it looks like we're about to find out.

That's gonna be another truck load of money for James Cameron...but I think everybody is tired of watching Titanic by now...and soon will be the AVATAR.

The 3D fad is still growing stronger by the day and no sign of letting up.
As for this, I've only seen the last half an hour, there are people out in the world that haven't seen this yet. All James is, is a big kid with too many toys and he's greedy as hell.

He's craving attention again and can someone change his diaper
