As Superman: Man of Steel gears up for its 2013 release, we have been lucky enough to finally get a look at some of the odd costumes and concept art that Tim Burton was working on before his film got shot down. Today, we have a look at some of the toy concept art, which would have been in the guise of actor Nicolas Cage had this movie ever come to light.
Included in this newly discovered batch of artwork is a look at Superman's suit from early in the story, before his death. There is also a look at Superman's tomb, The Eradicator Suit, which conceals Superman's identity, The Eradicator, protector of Superman after his death, and Superman's Recovery Suit.
Brianiac would have been Superman's main foe in Superman Lives. A Skull Ship maquette shows off what this villain's means of travel would have looked like. It would have made a cool toy, but it may have been a little goofy to actually see on screen. Check out all of this toy art below and decide for yourself.

"Superman appears in this suit in the beginning of the movie, until his "death." Reflects an updated "90's look" to Superman's traditional suit. Maintains signature colors of the blue tights with the red cape. Key design elements include the all new, contemporized "S" shield, and the addition of chest armor and shoulder pads."

"Superman Lives Suprman's Tomb Blueprints."

"Special suit made from Eradicator technology that restores Superman's powers during the darkness on Earth. Encloses Superman entirely to completely hide his identity; creates a powerful new silohuette for Superman. Suit magnifies all of Superman's traditional powers. Sleek and aerodynamic metallic suit that pulses with light energy (light piping). Includes smooth armor accented with hieroglyphic designs."

"Created by Jor-EI, Superman's father, to be Superman's "protector" and to rescue him from Death. Embodies the "newtechnology" and the "good" of Krypton. Is a power source that never runs out. Comes to "life" in the Fortress of Solitude where he re-activates Superman's signature technology. Can take different forms depending on the situation and the specific need required to protect Superman. Appears in the movie in two different forms: 1) as a humanoid; 2) as "special suit" for energizing Superman during the all-encompassing darkness. As a humanoid, the Eradicator is majestic, wisely and imposing. Has a heroic body, composed of pure energy, that is clothed is translucent robes."

"Superman wears this suit in the rejuvenation chamber in the Fortress of Solitude. Suit is laden with Kryptonian technology, including triangular-shaped energy ports for "plugging" Superman into the Eradicator technology (for restoration of his powers). Energy "circulates" visibly through the sculpted Kryptonian power matrix (use of light pipe and translucent areas on the figure). Likely to be dark metallic blue with light accent colors."

"Tim Burton's Superman Lives Brainiac's Skull Ship Maquette for movie."

@shayne Whelan So your saying Burton destroyed Batman, have you even seen Batman & Robin? Batman 1988 will always be a masterpiece, reguardless of what guys like you criticsize it for, you say his movies are emo, thats his style, and I, along with I'm sure many others enjoy it, and if that makes me a wannabe emo, then I am proud to be called one.

Honestly i think Tim Burton should be hunted by the human race and killed via the fists of many for his atrocities over the years, not to mention the fact that he is considered creative, i mean, when you Analise Burton's work, you realize that its really just an exaggerated form of the eccentricity one would deem relative to "what would it be like if the dead were controlled by Emo extremists and by all account is as false as Mili Vanilli", he may be a decent person, but his films are all the same, and he destroyed Batman for a while, if the majority of your movies are saved by reboots by the likes of Christopher Nolan, it means Burton's sh*t was handed to the best in the business to redeem and rejuvenate the franchises insisting that Burton made quite a few miserable attempts at providing a natural element to all of his f*cking movies. If you like this guys films your a wannabe Emo. However, Edward ScissorHands was Art.

I'd love to see an Eslesworlds comic adapt of this concept into a comic! It'd be interesting to see at least what It might've looked like if made!

@felipe-11 - Ha! I'm lenient on his Planet of the Apes in comparison to films like Charlie and the Chocolate factory, Mars Attacks and Alice in Wonderland.
Even though the story was atrocious.....at least it had some great prosthetics to be admired. The other films didn't have ANYTHING to be admired!
Sure some of his earlier films like Batman 1 & 2, Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice were the incredibly weird but classic films we all grew up on.....but like I said, those films are more than 20 years old, now! Plus, I think he got lucky because they were just right for the times. Those films would be very different if he made them today.

ADDICTION NON-FATAL
So f*cking glad this never got off the ground! If it had, we would have had a horrible "Gothic Superman" type of movie. Shame on the studio for even signing off on this! The silver powered up suit can be found on some sites. I've seen the proto types that were made and they are horrible! F*ck you Tim Burton!

Yeah, these are pretty lame, although I've seen some more concept art from this movie and some of it wasn't that bad. It wouldn't work today, but back in the 90s when they kept "updating" costumes in the comic books to make them look cooler, most people would've liked it.
@k-man Agreed, I like a few early Burton films; both Batman (though the first one is still quite boring) and Edward Scissorhands. But everything he does now pretty much sucks. I wanted Alice in Wonderland not to suck, but making it a sequel instead of an adaptation of the original was the worst idea ever. Don't get me started on his 2001 Planet of the Apes remake.

Hmm. Brainiac looks...interesting. In a way I see a New 52 resemblance on Supes' threads, but that's just me.

i knew this incarnation was awful when i heard nic cage was attached to the lead role. i had no idea it was going to be this bad though. so glad this didn't get made!

Absolutely horrible. Thank the film Gods that fate intervened and prevented this from ever taking place. I'm sorry to be the one to say it but Tim Burton is a has-been.....hell, I'm not even sure he ever "had been". He has made only two decent films in the past twenty f*cking years. THOSE are some sh*tty stats!
If this film had been made, who knows what would have happened to the comic book film franchises that are, luckily, booming today. Films like Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and, now, The Dark Knight Rises probably never would have been made because studios would be so cautious about spending money on them after losing so much of it on this sh*t-storm.
Wow, I cant get over how awful everything I've seen from this film has been.
