Tim Burton Considering Beetlejuice Sequel

Tim Burton is considering directing a second Beetlejuice movie
Back in October, Beetlejuice 2 screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith said that he had the blessing of original Beetlejuice director Tim Burton. Today we have news that Tim Burton may come back to direct Beetlejuice 2. Here's what the filmmaker had to say, when asked if he was considering Beetlejuice 2.

"Yes. I love that character, and Michael (Keaton) is so great in it. I always think about how great and fun that character was, so I just said to (writer) Seth (Grahame-Smith), 'If you have some idea about it, go for it, and then I'll look at it freshly.' In the past, I tried some things, but that was way back when. He seemed really excited about it. I told him to try some stuff, but he hasn't come back to me yet. Michael was so great in it. I'm sure he'd strangely tap right back into it."

Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg came on board to write Beetlejuice 2 back in September. The project is still in early stages of development, but the prospect of getting Tim Burton and Michael Keaton to reunite for the sequel is quite intriguing.

Beetlejuice 2 is in development .

@themoviefanatic Excellent point, I hadn't quite thought of that. I just fear for the overall quality of a sequel of a movie that came out so long ago. Of course, I loved Tron: Legacy, so some hope is reserved for this. But very little.
Thank you for the polite conversation!

Why are you comparing those movies ? The reason for that is because when you watch Sherlock Holmes A Game of Shadows, you're thinking about the first Sherlock Holmes movie. That can automatically make anyone think differently about it then the original movie. That's why when i watch sequels to movies, i don't think or try to remember the previous ones, i just watch the movie and enjoy it for what it is. Then when the movie is over i compare them and decide, which one i thought was better then the other one, or in other words which one i liked more then the other one.

@themoviefanatic Well, I'll use Sherlock Holmes as an example again. In the first Holmes, the slo-mo analysis of the fight scenes was fresh, original, and fun. In Game of Shadows, however, I felt it really only worked the last time, at the end of the movie. The same goes here, but EVERYTHING in Beetlejuice was fun and fresh. And knowing Burton's recent film history (I'm looking at Alice in Wonderland), this just wouldn't be as good anyway.

What do you mean by "making it feel gimmicky" ?

    5 months agoby @themoviefanaticFlag

  7. Major Tom

@themoviefanatic Because a sequel would ruin the fun and make it feel gimmicky. It's actually one of the small gripes I had about Sherlock Holmes 2.

No, it's just a sequel to Beetlejuice 24 years later.

Chances of a good sequel: 0 to 1. There's no way we'll manage to get back everything and everyone from the first. Even if we did, there's the chance this would be awful. I oppose. Leave me with my beloved original copy.

Let's hope this one doesn't follow through. I'm so sick of horrible, rehashed movies.

I would love to see this. I wonder how it will be done though, considering Beetlejuice was the villain in the movie, but "hero" in the long running animated tv show....

Well said. That's very true. I cannot see anyone else playing that role, but Michael Keaton playing it.

Johnny Depp doesn't really seem like the right choice for that role.

I would say it'll be in 2014 if it happens. Besides Michael needs to do something good for a change, I've tried watching his other films and I didn't like them.

Beetlejuice is a Burton masterpiece. I'm not really into there being a sequel. Although, with a sequel coming out then maybe we can finally get a proper Beeltejuice DVD/Blu-ray release. One with at least a commentary.

Just do it already! Burton hasn't made a great film in years - so I'd like to see a return to form with this. And as a bonus, Keaton would require less make-up budget nearly 25 years on!

Intriguing only in the sense that it'll be intriguing to see where this goes. But coming back after 24yrs would be hard and threatens to fall into line with other such letdowns.
