Justin Timberlake, Bradley Cooper and Ryan Reynolds are the three frontrunners for the coveted role
It seems there is a three-way race for a coveted superhero role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Justin Timberlake, Bradley Cooper and Ryan Reynolds are the top three candidates to take on the role of Green Lantern.

Director Martin Campbell had spent the past five months searching for the actor who would portray Hal Jordan and that exhaustive search has been narrowed down to Timberlake, Cooper and Reynolds, but they have to act fast. It was said that the holding deals Warner Bros. has on all three actors just expired on Monday, which means all three can pursue other roles.

Apparently producer Donald De Line, director Martin Campbell and Warner Bros. each has their own favorite of the three finalists, so we'll see where this intriguing casting race goes from here.

The film is slated for a December 2010 release date.

Green Lantern was released June 17th, 2011 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, Jenna Craig, Jon Tenney, Mike Doyle. The film is directed by Martin Campbell.

I hope ryan reynolds gets the part he is a good actor, and i think he can fit the role. Well, better than the others anyhow.

illuminati, Reynolds is the perfect DP.

As for Hal Jordan, he has the part and it's not terrible(it could be a lot worse and he's a good enough actor to make something of it) so you might as well just accept it.

Cooper would have been the better choice, but as long as Reynolds has it, we might as well see what he does with the role. Fox is gonna f*ck up DP anyway, so it doesn't matter.

To say he doesn't fit Jordan in ANY way is absurd. He has the look of a younger Hal Jordan(that's what they're going for since it'll most likely be a series). He has that c*cky attitude Jordan is known for. It's not like they chose Timberlake.

this is a joke right? Reynolds does NOT fit HAL in anyway. DEADPOOL was a forced fit, and now ANOTHER comic character?

    what are the producers thinking?

Are they trying to make Ryan Reynolds the next Johnny Depp by putting him in like 3 movies every year.

Of these three, Cooper really is the ONLY choice. The other two will just be a little bit too wrong for the part to make it work. Especially with Reynolds already spread across so many franchises. If Reynolds does get it, I won't start throwing my sh*t like some people, but he'll have to work pretty f*cking hard to convince me.

On a side note, I hope they don't introduce any other GL heroes like Kyle or Guy, until the second movie if they make one.

And Once again, JT is just flat out WRONG for this role.

And all the idiots saying that there change things up and such, that's the dumbest excuse ever. Supes is still broad shouldered, brown haired, and wears glasses in Clark Kent disguise. Peter Parker is nerdy, and wise cracking. Batman, etc... you get the point?

I hate Timberlake. To me he was only good in that movie because the rest of the main cast couldn't act for sh*t and he was a big star and no one else wasn't so the spotlight was all on him. Of course, I'm excluding Bruce Willis.

Timberlake can't act for sh*t! Except in Alpha Dog. Totally the wrong choice I'm sorry. He may be a nice guy, but not the right on.e

Cooper hands down! And I too agree with BD and cwalat, Reynolds for Flash someday.

  20. Brainiac

ok where did Timberlake even come from. i like the guy but not way should he play Hal Jordan. and Reynolds wouldn't be terrible but he should be Flash not GL, gotta to agree with cwalat.

and Twisted is valid on all points. i hope between the three Cooper gets it, i wouldn't be terribly opposed to any of them but if JT got it he would then be making music and touring between movies so that would f up the production schedules for possible sequels. and like i said i want Reynolds for the Flash and he can't be both.

    Bradley Cooper!

I hope to god that Ryan doesn't get the part, not that he doesn't fit with the part but it would be tiring to see the same actor in all these comic book adaptions.

Deadpool is already confirmed.. so lets just leave it at that and hope he also gets the part for Flash someday.

But as far as green lantern goes, give the part to Bradley Cooper or someone else (by someone else, i do not mean Justin... don't know what they were thinking with that. I personally would rather give the part to a zebra since they probably share the same level of acting skills, and i dislike justin more than the zebra :P)

  24. Twisted Smile (The Untold Smile)

I can't believe this debate has gone on this long. There is absolutely no question that Cooper is right for this role. If some need proof of his dramatic talents check out Midnight Meat Train. Whether you like the movie itself is irrelevant. Cooper gives an amazing dramatic performance in the film and gives weight to his ability to showcase his talent in whatever a role demands. He has the resemblance. Is that always the key to getting a part? No, it's not, but out of all the choices he has it and a very impressive acting ability. Cooper is the best choice.

    3 years agoby @twistedsmileFlag

  25. T.Clark

His Hangover character had all the characteristics of Hal Jordan, which shows he can do it. I don't know how anyone who's ever read a Hal Jordan story could say Timberlake would make a good GL

  26. IamBATMAN

Agent VIS; im not saying Cooper is the wrong choice, just not the only choice. And to say JT is not that great of an actor is an absurd statement. He has not been given a lead or even a secondary role yet and has still managed to stand out with the few chances he has been given. And you follow that statement with one saying that Cooper does have the acting ability? I like the guy, but what has he done outside of being funny?

at least we can all take comfort that Zack Efron is not one of the choices. hahahahahahaha

    3 years agoby @johnnyblazetb82Flag

  28. T.Clark

But Justin Timberlake looks NOTHING like him, and he's NOT that great of an actor, especially compared to Cooper who has the look AND the acting ability. That's what I'm saying: why are we even considering Timberlake could do it when Cooper is perfect?

I'm all for finding potential in actors and directors, but this is Green Lantern's first big screen outing...I don't think they should be taking chances on guys like Timberlake.

  29. IamBATMAN

Agent VIS, people have to look identical for things to work? last time I checked... it was the overall story, the acting and visuals that made movies good/entertaining, not "that guy looks just like him!"

  30. IamBATMAN

ludacris has about 1/10th of the talent that JT has... of the three movies I have seen JT in, I was pleasantly surprised in all three movies he had very different roles regardless of how much one of those movies sucked, he did a great job

a breakout role like this might be all he needs to show that he is capable of doing roles like this. he might have just started acting a few years ago, but the man has been an entertainer since before his balls dropped
