Thor: The Dark World may feature all nine realms
Thor: The Dark World is currently shooting in London, and we know this superhero sequel will take place both on Earth and the mythical land of Asgard. Today, we have word from Disney's presentation at Cinema Expo 2012 that the superhero sequel will take us to all nine realms.

"The film promises to cover not only the Earth and Asgard, but also all the nine worlds. The studio hopes that the director of Game of Thrones, Alan Taylor, with his experience creating fantasy series, will perfectly cope with a problem of building the mythical world in a new movie."

The other realms include Vanaheim, Alfheim, Nidavellir, Midgard (Earth), Jotunheim, home to the Frost Giants, Svartalheim, The Dark Elves' homeland, Hel a.k.a Land of the Dead, and Muspelheim, home to the fire demons. We reported in June that the sequel will feature the Dark Elves, lead by Christopher Eccleston's Malekith the Accursed. It isn't known how the other realms will fit into the story line.

Thor: The Dark World comes to theaters November 8th, 2013 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Ray Stevenson, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston. The film is directed by Alan Taylor.

@mcleve02 Yes, it certainly does sound awesome! I wonder how that would work, where all 9 realms are shown in Thor: The Dark World. Maybe Thor: The Dark World's plot has something to do with Thor having to go to all 9 realms?

That sounds really cool but I hope it is not to convoluted.

As long as it doesn't have an episodic, "first go here, complete the mission, now go here..." feel to it, I say do it!

This is why Marvel wins the war... Sounds awesome!

9 realms - so that means 7 more to go. The back bone of these future films could be influenced by the Frost Giants, making them a greater threat than what the Gods thought.

Three of the realms have been done, Norse, earth and frost.

@ejk1 We we did discuss last year over a 5 to 6 film expansion so, here's to that being a reality

@bawnian-dexeus I've said this a few times, but probably not as strongly. I just don't get why studios want to rush through these films, while other franchises with LESS potential profit get MORE chances. Ridiculous.

@ejk1 Been wanting to say that for a while, haven't you?

@ejk1 Very well said. I myself am not opposed to trilogies, so long as each film is consistent and contributes something to the overarching story. If Thor goes for a trilogy, I'm for it. If it's only duology, or even a quadrilogy, I'd be for that too.

If they just mention and show the other realmsin a prologue like how they showed the war between Asgard and the Frost Giants in the first film, id be ok with that. Just dont try to fit all the worlds into one film and try to do to much with such little time.

@ejk1 Well said. The Amazing Spider-Man is meant as a trilogy for now, but hopefully they change their mind when the 2nd film comes out.

@narrator Agreed. I'm so damn tired of trilogies. It is the whole "we have to tie everything up for a trilogy" thought-process that damages the third film. There are NINE realms. You should get MORE THAN THREE FILMS. I don't want to see things rushed just because you studio clowns don't think we'll sit through something beyond a trilogy. Resident Evil Just came out with what, a fifth or sixth horrible film. The Saw franchise was good for what, nine or ten films? Bay is coming back for AT LEAST one more Transformer film, and Fast and the Furious will be rolling out #6 next summer. And don't give me that lame-ass excuse about how these films cost a lot of money; they make it all back and then some, and as long as you continue to deliver quality product, they will continue to deliver profit. So expand Thor beyond a trilogy. Take Spider-Man to a fifth film, getting all of his great enemies their time to shine. For the love of God, someone help the Fantastic Four fantastic in four! Just stop bullsh*tting me about trilogies.

I don't mind mentions of the other worlds, but focus on one new world at a time, and the same should go for their creatures for the most part. Dark elves? Then dark elves it is, with the possibilities for a few creatures from other worlds popping up.
