Earlier today, we reported that Monster director Patty Jenkins may helm Thor 2 for Marvel Studios. While it still isn't clear if she is locked in for the job yet, some new details on the superhero sequel have emerged from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. Take a look at what he had to say below, which indicates that Chris Hemsworth's title character will be going beyond the realms of Earth and Asgard.

"(The sequel will) take Thor literally to other worlds. (Thor 2 will) primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father (Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins) is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds."

There hasn't been official confirmation yet that Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins will reprise their roles from Thor, although that seems to be the case. Don Payne is writing the screenplay for Thor 2. There has been no indication on when production may start. Marvel Studios has locked in a July 26, 2013 release date for the sequel.

Thor: The Dark World comes to theaters November 8th, 2013 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Ray Stevenson, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston. The film is directed by Alan Taylor.

@watson-mcflyy I love X-Men First Class. It is the best X-Men movie yet and the character development and relationship between Charles and Erik is incredible. For that, First Class is an excellent film. I like Thor better though, however, because it's (as @dan1 would say) very cosmic. I like the science-fiction elemets adapted to it and that makes it my favorite superhero flick. Plus, Thor was a bit more fun than First Class was. That's just my opinion.

As long as they make Foster a more interesting character this time around. She was exceedingly one-dimensional in Thor, and the weakest element of that movie. It is cool that they're doing a more cosmic storyline this time. I tend to prefer Thor stories that don't focus on Midgard.

Am I the only one that did not get the hype thor got from alot of people, it was ok but not nearly as good as Blade 1@2, X-men first Class, or Spider-man 2. It basically had the plot of both he-man the movie and the beast master sequel where the beast master went trough a portal into the modern world, just done a little better.

Good stuff. But if Thor is going to be a trilogy, I think Muspelheim and the war with Surtur for last, if they even go that way, which they should.

but I really do want to see Lady Sif fall in love with Thor

a love triangle may do some justice maybe as good as the Spider-Man movies

With the skrulls being tipped for the avengers, then I would definately think that Beta-ray will be making an appearance, as it would bring Odin's emotional input into the situation like it did in the first, and another team up would be cool after iron man 2. I wonder what the concept would be for him.
