Chris Hemsworth will return to star in Thor 2
Director Kenneth Branagh, however, will not return to direct the sequel. It seems there was no bad blood in the departure, though, which was described as, "mutual and amicable."
A summer 2013 release for Thor 2 means the studios will likely have to find a director rather quickly. Marvel/Disney has already slated Iron Man 3 for a May 3, 2013 release to kick off the summer movie season.
Thor 2 comes to theaters November 8th, 2013 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Idris Elba. The film is directed by Alan Taylor.

Yes. I wonder what that means for both of those movies, since they are coming out on release dates so close to each other. Hopefully that wont hurt one of those two movies box office results, once they are both released to theaters. Kind of like with Thor that came out in May, and then we now have Captain America: The First Avenger coming out in July.

@rojodiablo
Favreau should direct Thor 2. I think he did a good job directing Iron Man and Iron Man 2.

I figured this would happen, after I wanted Branagh back for the sequel so bad, oh well. Favreau would be a great option to replace him.

Maybe the director of Iron Man and Iron Man 2 could direct it.

I'm thrilled they're going ahead with a sequel, but a little bummed Branagh isn't coming back. It'll be interesting to see who they get instead.

Tha Phoenix
I really enjoyed Thor, so the news that the sequel won't see Kenneth Branagh at the helm does not sit right with me.

The Incredible Hulk 2 isn't coming out no time soon, that's why they are making the TV series because of all the trouble that happened during The Incredible Hulk.

I can't say I'm excited because I thought "Thor" was just alright, but it'll probably be a fun time

Thor was great, the best comic book movie of the year along with X-Men: First Class.
I hope Kenneth Branagh produces Thor 2 if he isn't directing it and also the whole cast returns too.

Mr_Jellyfish
No Kenneth Branagh? I hope they don't try to make it "darker" because that will kill it

ADDICTION NON-FATAL
Don't you mean 2012? Isn't it called Thor 2: The Avengers! I say this because isn't Loki the main villain? Not much imagination or creativity has been put into the villains in The Avengers.

Thor 2's release may seem late, but remember that it is coming after IM3 is released in May (I believe), so like 2008 and 2011, they want some distance between their films. As far as Brannagh leaving, I just hope that they find someone that will go forward with the story of Thor in as caring a manner.

i'm cool with this. and honestly i hope portman doesnt come back. all that stupid "lovey-dovey' crap does nothing more than bog these movies down and take away from what should really be happening. heroes and villains battling it out. the rest is just boring filler. same crap that bogged down the transformers movies. (though i havent seen 3 yet) they better get hopkins back as odin though.

Would be great if they get a director that is an expert in making films that deal with mythology and gods, even if its a comic book

That's great, but what about Natalie Portman? The sequel needs her since it already lost Branagh.
