Thor 2 Loses Director Patty Jenkins

Thor 2 loses Patty Jenkins
Things have been shook up at the Marvel camp. Director Patty Jenkins, who was confirmed as director of Thor 2 in late September, has left the sequel due to creative differences with the Studio.

Marvel is already seeking a new director, and as the film is scheduled to be released as early as November 15th, 2013, an announcement as to who will pick up Thor's hammer is expected soon.

There seems to be no bad blood between Patty Jenkins, best known for directing Monster and The Killing: Pilot, and the Studio. It's believed that she may still direct a superhero film for Marvel, but it will not be a sequel.

We'll be sure to keep you updated as to who is hired to helm Thor 2. It's unlikely that Kenneth Branagh, who brought the original in with a worldwide box office take of $448 million, will be back for the sequel. But that hasn't been completely ruled out at this point.

Thor 2 comes to theaters November 8th, 2013 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Idris Elba. The film is directed by Alan Taylor.

@jayaottley...What kind of problems did Branagh have with Marvel during production of Thor?

I probably would of turned out bad if she had directed Thor 2.

Got with Branagh. The style would be maintained for fluid continuity.

@moviemaniac66 @bane5000 -- That would indeed be the most logical thing to do. Hope they don't pull off anything stupid.

@Intoxicated I dunno. The reason that Iron Man, Thor and the new Batmans worked so well, I think, was because the directors understood the creative concepts from such a great perspective already.

Martin Cambell directed Casino Royale, for instance, but Green Lantern wasn't as good as it could, and should have been, because he lacked that refining quality.

Too bad! what if Martin scorsese directed Thor 2? he's an excellent and creative director.

Why did the short paragraph in the front page say Patty Jenkins was an actress?

Aww, this sucks. I was looking forward to her take on it. Given the emphasis on "she may direct a Marvel movie, just not a sequel," I can only assume this was just a matter of Marvel wanting the second film to take a specific direction based on things already set up in the first film, and she had other ideas. Not really a big deal, but I still hope they give her a chance to helm a movie. Dr. Strange maybe?

@k-man Well, you know what. I just absolutely annoyed the hell out of me with that comment Patty Jenkins not being up to the challenge. How the hell can judge someone who hasn't really put out much? You haven't seen everything she can do? Just do yourself a favor for now on and shut the f*ck up.

I always thought this was a possibility; she was a choice from way out if left field. Now as for who should replace her:

Raimi? No. The way he left the Spider-Man series may have left a bitter taste in both his and Marvel's mouths. And I don't want to see his version of Thor; it will consist Thor having a disguise (Dr. Donald Blake), a villain finding out, then said villain kidnapping Jane, and finally Thor going to save her at the end. Seen that film three times before. Yawn.

Del Toro? Interesting, but probably not. This would just be an insult to Hellboy fans. I mean, would he pick up where Branagh's instead of finishing his own trilogy? I don't think so.

Darren Aronofsky? Ah, here's an interesting choice. He SHOULD have directed Wolverine, but pulled out because of family and other reasons. So would Marvel go to him and ask him if he would helm Thor after he finishes his Noah? It's intriguing, to say the least.

Matthew Vaughn? With the uncertainty around Kick-Ass 2, Marvel may want to keep Vaughn in their house with an enticing offer and a chance to work with a higher profile character than Dave aka Kick-Ass.

Those are some choices, and my assessment of them. Add your own thoughts to those if you wish.

    @TheFury - How can I say what?

No offense, Fury, but you constantly attempting to put up these ridiculous arguments are getting a little annoying.

Yes, Patty Jenkins was not up to the challenge. By the way, what film(s), plural, are you talking about??? She has made ONE feature film her entire career that was a theatrical release, which also just so happens to be one of the most overrated films of the past decade. The directing wasn't even that great, it was Charlize Theron who did a great job......by no means was it Patty Jenkins. Her style is boring, her shots are, for the most part, extremely static and flat, the composition and lighting were all sub-par, the list goes on.......films like Thor demand huge, elaborate camera moves, amazingly choreographed fight scenes, beautifully lit sets/digitally created environments, etc (Not only does she have ZERO experience in any of that, but it's also NOT HER STYLE).
The last person I said wasn't up to the task for a Marvel film (for the exact same reasons) was Gavid Hood.......and look how X-Men Origins: Wolverine turned out.

Certain people are just not meant to direct these kinds of films.
