    @XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Yeah, I do believe they have a much better track record with awarding performances than they do Best Picture. Basically, what I was alluding to with my comment was the fact that, because of the outlandish nature of Penn's performance, he's bound to have some people brush him off as being over the top, despite the fact that it looks to be another terrific performance.

    @thedude-abides -- Oh, I wasn't referring to that; he seems extremely dedicated, and might give a great performance. I was replying to the quote "....although that would be a stretch for academy standards because, as we all know, performance means very little with them."

    I am, however, indifferent when it comes to this statement. They choose some great candidates, other times, not so much..

    The main point being, watching the grass grow can highly degenerate their judgment. But, overall, I think awarding great performances is one of their primary goals. Needless to say, Sandra Bullock will serve as an example jabbing that statement.

    @thedude-abides damn i could not have said it better myself! i really wonder who is voting for these films and actors and directors... Honestly some have been very deserving... Penn needs to bring in a nomination for this. i have yet to see the film but honestly from the looks of it, he deserves at least that from this film. personally i think most of the oscar voters have their fists up each others asses... and you can quote me on that!

    Hahaha. F*cking brilliant. I really hope he gets an Oscar nod for this, although that would be a stretch for academy standards because, as we all know, performance means very little with them.

    @incmob Completely agree.

  10. Vanboy

    Doesn't look like an aged rocker. Looks like a bad cross-dresser or Edward Scissorhands wannabe. I think he's trying to be a Wrestler or have a Crazy Heart. The timid soft-spoken voice is disturbing. Not a good comeback vehicle for The Talking Heads either.
