And you know, even by the end of season 1, Katara is a pretty badass waterbender at that point. I hope Shaymalan hasn't forgotten that. It's a foregone conclusion that Aang will be badass, I'll be more interested to see who else gets the spotlight.

I just finished rewatching the first season, then I rewatched this trailer. It looks surprisingly faithful, gives me goosebumps seeing it recreated in live action.

Toph: Wait a minute...has anyone noticed that Momo's missing too?
Sokka: (horrified) Oh no....I knew it was only a matter of time! Appa ate Momo!!
(opens Appa's mouth) Momo, I'm coming for ya, buddy!
Katara: Sokka, Appa didn't eat Momo. He's probably with Aang.
Sokka: That's just what Appa wants you to think!
(climbs into Appa's mouth)
Zuko: Get out of the bison's mouth, Sokka.

Katara: "There's no time!"
Sokka: "Oh, I see! So there's time to get your scrolls and time to get your staff, but no time for my boomerang?"
Katara: "That's correct!"
Sokka: "Oh."

Aunt Wu: Whose next?
Sokka: Ok let's get this over with.
Aunt Wu: Your future is full of struggle and anguish, most of it self-inflicted.
Sokka: But you didn't read my palms or anything!
Aunt Wu: I don't need to, it's written all your face.

Pretty much my whole identity: Sokka the meat and sarcasm guy. But I'm willing to be Sokka, the veggies and straight talk fellow. Deal? "

Aang: Sokka, what's your problem eat.
Sokka: I'm not hungry.
Aang: But you're always hungry.
Katara: He's just upset because a bunch of girls kicked his butt yesterday.
Sokka: They snuck up on me!
Katara: Right, and then they kicked your butt.
Sokka: Sneak attacks don't count! Tie me up with ropes. I'll show them a thing or two. I'm not scared of any girls. (Grabs food) Who do they think they are anyway? Mmmmm this is tasty.

Hmmm, that's tough. I'll throw out a name or two for discussions sake:
Hailee Steinfeld: Though I've never seen her acting skills she fits the physical profile to a T (aside from nationality which could be an issue). Though I'm not prone to picking based on appearance alone Steinfeld has caught the eye of the Coen Brothers and for a teenage villain in their True Grit remake, and I've rarely known the Coen Brothers to pick bad actors.
Camilla Belle: Arguably a little old for the character Belle also fits the profile and with some decent acting experience under her belt. The big question is whether she could balance the dynamic traits of the character.
Ambika Jois: A relative unknown who will make her western debut in Prince of Persia this year, Ambika Jois not only fits the physical profile but is of the same nationality of Dev Patel and other Firebenders from the movie. Though a bit green as far as film acting Jois has a bit of theatre and television experience to her credit.
Francia Raisa: Another that I haven't personally seen, Raisa has a good deal of television acting under her belt and a good deal of athletic experience, including martial arts (a clear asset for a film like this) and her Latin/ Hispanic complexion isn't too different from her Indian co-stars.
Keisha Castle-Hughes: Right in the age range and fitting the physical profile, Keisha has starred in several films including Whale Rider and The Nativity Story. Though Azula's character is vastly different from a majority of Hughes' roles its not too hard to believe she could pull it off.

yeah dont really kow any young asian actors by name or at all at the moment that could play Toph, dakota fanning or that girl from kick ass maybe could play Toph, but well see
also, i know she has a cameo when uncle is explaining to the crew what happened to zukos face at the hands of his father, and she doesnt have a major role till book 2, but who do u think would make a good cunning and calculating Azula...let the debate begin...and go :D
