The Wolverine Won't Settle for a Second Rate Director Says Hugh Jackman

The Wolverine is moving forward says Hugh Jackman
Fear not, superhero fans! Hugh Jackman has made an appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where he told a nervous crowd that his upcoming Marvel one-off The Wolverine is not dead!

Like the character himself, the production is quickly healing from the loss of Oscar-nominated director Darren Aronofsky and is now moving forward at a decent pace. It may happen a little later than sooner, but only because Hugh Jackman won't settle for someone with less talent than Darren Aronofsky behind the lens.

Here is what Hugh Jackman had to say about the continuation of this particular X-Men spin-off.

"Now, we're out looking for a director. We were pretty much ready to go. The script is fantastic - the best we've ever had, which is why it attracted Darren in the first place. His personal situation precludes him from doing it now, and I feel for him. But now we need to find a director. We're not going to settle. We're going to find a director as good as Darren, if not better. Well, as good. Everyone is still pushing forward to getting it done. I can't be eating too many more chicken breasts."

The screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie is still in play. It is not known when The Wolverine will actually begin shooting, but 20th Century Fox is hoping to have things in place by September.

The Wolverine comes to theaters July 26th, 2013 and stars Hugh Jackman. The film is directed by James Mangold.

Proyas or Park would be cool options and as for Batman Returns being a mess, that's just crazy talk.

Hahahaha very good points every1. Im just glad there taking there time with this and not rushing into somthing thrown together and awful jus to get people to watch it like the cast of Jersey shore. hahahaha ok that was bad... Ok everyone... CHILL!!! hahahaha ok that was worse. Seems all the good directors are on the DC payroll.

I actually enjoy Batman Forever. It's goofy but fun, and IMO it's less weird and messy than Batman Returns.

I'm going out on a limb here but i think Hugh should produce it and Mr. Eastwood should direct it. Now put that in your pipe and smoke it :)

Is Brett Ratner busy? Kidding. I'd like to see maybe Alex Proyas taking over this, or even getting an Asian director like Chan-wook Park

WE all love Hugh but dude, "Tired of Chicken Breasts"? with people starving all over the world and natural disasters making it difficult for them I wouldn't complain so hard. Especially this is your cash cow considering your other movies are not so stellar. Australia anyone? Chomp on that Chicken!

And actors aren't vain? :P laugh all you want, it's just an unlikely fantasy anyways.

LOL. That would be pretty vain of him to cast himself as director, thereby as much as calling himself "as good as [Aronofsky]".

Maybe not, @shuabert, but I thought the idea was intriguing.

@johnnyblazetb82 I don't really want Snyder anywhere near this movie. His stories always lack depth, and are just visual fluff (which is fine, just not right for Wolverine). The exception IMO is Watchmen, but he was working so closely from Alan Moore's novel that he didn't really have to write any of it himself.

I don't think @comicbookfan was suggesting Jackman direct the film. He was saying he hopes Jackman gets an appropriate replacement for Aronofsky. And then he went on to suggest Jackman make himself executive producer because he's so involved already.

Intresting thought CBF, Of course it'd be my dream to see what Zack Snider would do with the character. anyone cant do much worse then Gavin Hood. I wonder if Shuemocker is available? hahahahaha jk

@comicbookfan While that might not be the best idea, given that he doesn't have experience directing (or does he?), it's certainly unique, and you're right, he knows Wolverine pretty well now. Hell, if he said 'f*ck it, I'll direct this bitch', I would line up and see what he could do with it.

It's already a Chris McQuarrie script, why not just get Singer back for a Usual Suspects reunion?

Of course Jackman is going to do whatever he can to get this film made. Without the character of Wolverine, his film career is not impressive. At all.

Hugh Jackman is for the fans! Hopes he comes through with a directorial talent. I wonder how Jackman would do behind the lens. He knows the character so well now, he needs to at least latch on as Executive Producer.

Jackman is the man (or mutant?) its always refreshing to hear an Actors passionate about pleasing there fans. Although Hugh an Co owe alot for that B@#$% Origins That will 4ever live in infamy as one of the worst comic adapted movies ever (right next to Batman and Robin) jus goes to show no matter how Badass the source Character some Directors will find a way to Putrify perfection. Were still behind ya Hugh but one more F&*% up like barraca Deadpool an itl take more then a healing factor to save your career.
