Screenwriter Mark Bomback (Total Recall, Jack the Giant Killer) has come aboard to rewrite the script for The Wolverine.

Christopher McQuarrie wrote the original screenplay, which follows Hugh Jackman's title character to Japan, where he will search for more clues about his origin. There, he encounters the criminal underworld and a new love interest. James Mangold is directing, which will reunite him with Hugh Jackman for the first time since the romantic comedy Kate & Leopold.

We reported last week that The Wolverine production has been pushed back. No concrete production start date has been set yet, although it is said producers are aiming for a spring 2012 start in Vancouver. Hugh Jackman will begin work on the superhero sequel after he wraps on the musical Les Miserables.

Hugh Jackman is producing The Wolverine alongside Lauren Shuler Donner and John Palermo.

The Wolverine comes to theaters July 26th, 2013 and stars Hugh Jackman. The film is directed by James Mangold.

@pjwolsker Yeah, but honestly I kinda stopped caring when Aronofsky dropped out, that took the wind out of my excitement.

@daveactor7 You gotta add that "1" after the Dan part, or I won't know that you tagged me. Just click my name, ya bum :P

@m2 I thought Live Free or Die Hard was great, so that knowledge doesn't bother me. Script rewrites are not uncommon, especially on comic book movies.

@dan dont fear. There were many rewrites and changes for both screenwriter and director of X-men First class and look how that turned out

He wrote Live Free or Die Hard (which was not good), so I really don't know what to think about this.

@dan1 agreed. if i was Hugh id be pissed. he's working out a sh*t ton and packing on muscle for the role. itd be a shame if all that work was for nothing. if this gets delayed anymore they might just reboot altogether. i dont want to see that.. Hugh IS wolverine

I've been concerned for a while. Too many hands on the script and change of directors, my faith has gone steadily downhill.

Bomback has worked with McQuarrie in the past, so I'm not so concerned, yet.
