The Wolverine Production Details from Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman bulks up for The Wolverine
Hugh Jackman bulks up for The Wolverine
Hugh Jackman is currently preparing for his return as the iconic antimantium-laced mutant Logan in director Darren Aronofsky's The Wolverine. In Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the actor revealed that he is putting on more weight than he ever has before in resuming the role, and has even sought help in training from Dwayne Johnson.

Aronofsky has reportedly told Jackman that he needs to gain an extra twenty-five pounds of muscle mass. Here is what Hugh had to say as he prepares himself for the rigors of The Wolverine:

"I'm actually quite long and lean. I had a chat with Dwayne Johnson, who did 25 pounds for his movie (Faster). I rang him up and was like, 'Okay, tell me what's going on?'"

Jackman's training will last six months, and he is expected to gain a pound a week, consuming 6,000 calories a day. Hugh isn't bothered by the intense workout, as the chance to work with Darren Aronofsky more than makes up for it:

"I love every one of his movies. He's a visionary. I've been trying to get Darren since X-Men: The Last Stand, really. We've been talking about this and The Wolverine for so long. We had a meeting about three weeks ago, catching up as friends more than anything, and he just ran a few ideas by me and my eyes just lit up, because already I think this is like a whole new ballgame - just the ideas, the level of depth, and intelligence, and creativity. I think he's been waiting so long to do a movie in this genre. When he found the script, he said this is it. It's really exciting."

The Wolverine comes to theaters July 26th, 2013 and stars Hugh Jackman. The film is directed by James Mangold.

@narrator: Really? Interesting. While I love all of Nolan's movies and would give them all at least 4/5, I don't consider the Prestige to be even close to his best, though I do like it more than Insomnia and Batman Begins. His best, IMO is Memento.

@Worth5Bucks, The Prestige, for me, is still Nolan's best film to date, and is easily on my top 5. To eac their own thou, I love the guy too. :)

Anyways, agreed with @Supes, this kind of dedication really comes across on screen, and I am thankful to the few actors who are dedicated to their roles, and not the paycheck. I'm betting Aronofsky will have a field day with this film.

Wow that is gonna be a beastly Wolverine!! adding 24lbs of muscle in half a year is insane. I'm sure his body will stop picking up the weight though but he is gonna be in bodybuilder mode for sure.. who needs berserker rage

..I can't wait to see what Aronofsky does with this. Part of me is hoping it's not too heavy with animation, maybe giving it more of "real" feel to it. But ill leave all that to the expert...I'm sure hes got some crazy-good vision for this one. HughJackman is gonna be looking juiced out of his head adding on 25lbs!
