The Wolfman Reboot Coming from Universal

Universal planning The Wolf Man reboot
Universal planning The Wolf Man reboot
Universal had previously considered making a sequel to 2010's The Wolfman, which starred Benicio Del Toro, however, now it looks like Michael Tabb's script is being rewritten and reworked as an original film, reports Moviehole.

The title has yet to be decided, but Werewolf is a possibility. The studio is said to be talking to prospective directors over the next couple of weeks and casting will begin shortly thereafter.

The film will be more in line with the original 1941 The Wolf Man, directed by George Waggner.

Production will most likely begin in the Fall.

I agree, I think the 2010's remake version was fine, Benecio Del Toro did a terrific job. No need to reboot this movie and certainly not with a new origin story

They want a remake because in their fat cat brains they see some sort of major money earning potential. The last one was just fine. The only reason they want to attempt a remake is because it didn't make enough money for them to line their bank accounts. They will suck the idea dry.

I didn't hate Del Toro's version really, I see no need for a reboot.

All they care about is Money, if they want to reboot something then reboot Eragon. Now that was awful but fun at the same time.
I wish they would reboot really bad films and make them better.

more in line??? what can these people do seriously?!? It was not a blockbuster film, it was a good film so why the reboot?

so they're rebooting a reboot? isn't that a bit redundant? i enjoyed the del toro/hopkins movie so i dont see why that storyline isnt good enough for them. how different are they really gonna make it? there aren't too many ways you can take a wolfman story.

@moviegeek I think it was a tone of the film, Period piece character study then over the top mutilations. I agree tho I didn't think it was bad either

there is nothing they could do in a reboot that would make it any better than the last one. the majority of the public have short-term memories, but not that short.

Well, Universal can do whatever they want. Unlike the majority in here, I dont get upset by remakes because I dont HAVE to watch them.....but this does feel a little too soon. Its just a matter of whether or not they have learned from their mistakes.
The look of Joe Johnston's what great, with it's dark tone, extreme shadows and contrasty imagery.....but the story and how he actually filmed the scenes was kind of campy and borderline cheesy. He didn't have that extra punch of seriousness that would have made it terrifying. Instead, the wolfman just came right out of the woods and knocked a couple people's heads off......that's not scary. In fact, the best moment in the film was the opening sequence when they only hinted at the wolfman and his features, showing only his arm while chasing that dude through the forest.

I will admit, I liked the period of Johnston's film, I think it fit nicely in the late 1800's.....so if they were going to reboot it, I would say keep it in that period. (Its like Indiana Jones, he works a thousand times better in the 1930's than he does in the 60's. Surrounding technology actually takes away from the character and the feeling they are trying to achieve.)

So, if they want to do this right......make it dark, make it gritty, make it SCARY, make it R-rated and make it set in a time period that suits it.

Lastly, it would be hard to get as many great actors on a reboot as they had on Johnston's version.....however, ironically, not many people stood out with their performances because the script was so lame. I say bring them all back and give them another shot......and no, I'm not joking about that.

@Brian-Rogers Actually, the 1941 Wolfman and the 2009 Wolfman took place in 2 different time periods. The 1941 Wolfman took place in 1941 and the 2009 Wolfman took place sometime in the 1890s.

It's too early. Reboot it sometime in the deeper future, like how King Kong was. Honestly, have you ever created your own story for a movie and QUIT WITH THE REBOOT THING!!!

  25. Brian Rogers

Why would this need a re boot? Thats a HUGE mistake on the part of Universal. How can you one up Anthony Hopkins, and Hugo Weaving? Emily Blunt plays an amazing part and is wonderful too. Rick Baker wolf FX are without compare. "Wolfman"... well, Its my favorite of the universal Monster remakes, and to redo, and make it "more" lke the 1941 original...wasnt this most recent one done this way? Wow.
