Universal Pictures is rebooting The Wolfman for a straight-to-DVD franchise
The studio is currently seeking out writers to tackle a new incarnation of the classic monster tale. Like the 2010 movie The Wolfman, this remake will also be a period piece, although no other plot details were revealed.
The Wolfman took in $61 million at the domestic box office and just under $140 million worldwide. The production budget was listed at $150 million.
The move is similar to Universal's straight-to-DVD franchise it launched with Death Race 2 in January.
The Wolfman was released February 12th, 2010 and stars Simon Merrells, Gemma Whelan, Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, Mario Marin-Borquez, Asa Butterfield, Cristina Contes, Anthony Hopkins. The film is directed by Joe Johnston.

I thought the Wolfman was pretty good, so I don't see the need to remake it yet again. They need to focus more on figuring out new ideas and not just recycling the same thing over and over again - boring!

This new one wasn't even bad. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. No reason for this, aside from the obvious.

Now their over doing it. We got True Blood. That's enough werewolves to go around. And the Wolfman did not deserve the Oscar. They replaced a lot of Baker's work with CG. What a joke that was.

I thought the Wolfman was going to be a lot better than what it ended up being. There were scenes that glimpsed at what it had *potential* to be but in the end it was just a generic Hollywood mess!
It was scenes like that stupid werewolf showdown at the end, which was so utterly retarded and mindless, that was the film's demise. Hollywood needs to learn that sometimes, less is more.
Its too bad that Mark Romanek left the project just a couple months before it was due to go before cameras because with him behind the camera would have been MUCH better. Not to mention several things in the script were changed once Joe Johnson got on board.
What a shame.

I actually enjoyed Del Toro's Wolfman myself and feel it should have made more money than it did and I see no reason to make a reboot, even if it's straight to video.
