The Weinstein Co. Acquires A Single Man
A Single Man premiered at Venice Film Festival, where Colin Firth received the Best Actor prize. The film is currently at the Toronto International Film Festival and is scheduled to play at the London Film Festival on October 16th and at the Tokyo Film Festival on October 19th.
"I could not be happier to be working with the Weinstein's on the release of A Single Man. I have always admired Harvey's great passion for film. Harvey and I have talked about a collaboration for years, in fact since our first meeting more than 10 years ago. I am ecstatic that we will finally be working together," stated Tom Ford.
"Tom Ford and I have been friends for the better part of ten years. I am proud to say that I always thought he would be a great filmmaker. We had even talked about doing something together. This film is incredibly moving affected Bob and me so deeply. The performances that Tom got from Colin Firth and Julianne Moore are nothing short of spectacular. The emotionality of the piece and the universal humanity on display in this film makes us proud to be in this industry and especially proud be a part of this debut," stated Harvey Weinstein.
CAA negotiated the deal with TWC execs David Glasser, President of International Distribution, and Michal Steinberg, SVP Business &Legal Affairs and Acquisitions. TWC will release the film theatrically in 2009.
Set in Los Angeles in 1962, at the height of the Cuban missile crisis, A Single Man, is the story of George Falconer, a 52 year old British college professor [Colin Firth] who is struggling to find meaning to his life after the death of his long time partner, Jim [Matthew Goode]. George dwells on the past and cannot see his future as we follow him through a single day, where a series of events and encounters, ultimately leads him to decide if there is a meaning to life after Jim. George is consoled by his closest friend Charley [Julianne Moore], a 48 year old beauty who is wrestling with her own questions about the future. A young student of George's, Kenny [Nicholas Hoult], who is coming to terms with his true nature, stalks George as he feels in him a kindred spirit. A SINGLE MAN is a romantic tale of love interrupted, the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition, and ultimately the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life.
A Single Man was released December 11th, 2009 and stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Nicholas Hoult, Matthew Goode, Jon Kortajarena, Paulette Lamori, Ryan Simpkins, Ginnifer Goodwin. The film is directed by Tom Ford.
