Ben Affleck's adaptation of the post-apocalyptic horror/fantasy novel, The Stand has added writer David Kajganich.

The Stand is a post-apocalyptic horror/fantasy novel by American author Stephen King. The story starts when a government-run lab accidentally lets loose a deadly virus, most of the population of the world is wiped-out. Survivors begin having dreams about two figures: a mystical old woman, or a foreboding, scary man. As the story tracks various people, we begin to realize that the two figures exemplify basic forces of good and evil, and the stage is set for a final confrontation between the representatives of each.

Originally Ben Affleck was writing and directing the project, but the writer gained attention after writing a script to the upcoming remake of another Stephen King classic, IT.

The project is still in development. No production date has been set.

The Stand comes to theaters in 2013.

It keeps sounding like this project is one film. I can't even concieve how that's possible with the book being nearly 900 pages in length. The miniseries in the early '90's was 6 hours and it had significant amounts of abridgement.

Story sounds interesting, but this writer doesn't have much experience.
