In The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). Balthazar can't do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It'll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes "The Sorcerer's Apprentice."

The Sorcerer's Apprentice was released July 14th, 2010 and stars Jay Baruchel, Nicolas Cage, Monica Bellucci, Alfred Molina, Toby Kebbell, Ethan Peck, Teresa Palmer, Peyton List. The film is directed by Jon Turteltaub.

Lol. The beginning was pretty cool but then it got corny and all. Still, looks entertaining at least. No doubt I will end up seeing this on dvd.

This movie looks like it'll become the begining of another disney movie franchise, like pirates of the caribbean, and like national treasure!. It's gonna be great!.

    hahaha good one mmmm_mmmm

Cage does look out of place here, even more than Baruchel. If Turteltaub and Cage are going to make a movie together, it should be another National Treasure. Those two movies were historically inaccurate but enjoyable. And Cage was somewhat tolerable in it.

I didn't like National Treasure, it was a bore-fest for kids. I don't think Cage had a good movie since Face/Off and Gone in 60 seconds.

Some of Cage's dialogue here is pretty awful, but it is only a trailer. There are some nice visual elements and it's the team behind National Treasure, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm mildly interested.

This is how I imagined a bio pic on how Cage blew 30 million would look like.

"I didn't BLOW all the money. I used to do sorcery."

Does anyone else think that Nic Cage in this looks like Chester A. Bum from bum reviews???
And Also, is Disney was going to commission this, they shoulda just named it Doctor Strange (i.e. what Comrade said) and then gotten an actual good cast.
I don't think Nic Cage is going to ever have a good movie again, Unless you count Kick-Ass.

  17. T.Clark

Cheesy but entertaining...seems to be the case for Cage's films as of late.

I agree with Rufio about the cast. Nic Cage and Jay Barcuhel don't seem like a likely duo.

great idea... great setting... AWFUL cast. Nic Cage looks seriously out of place. Jay Baruchel is NOT a lead actor of a supposed to be blockbuster (he is the trusty sidekick or indie actor... not the lead - too whiny and unbelievable). the CGI looks over-the-top and poorly done. i might see this on Bluray, but i'll wait for more before i decide for sure.
