The Red Star lands at Warner Bros.
The comic book, which was created by Christian Gossett, is set in an alternate Russia which touts highly advanced technology along with magical elements. The story centers around a Russian soldier and his wife who get caught in the middle of a war between his country and a former Russian leader.
The studio picked up The Red Star out of turnaround at Universal Pictures, which had been developing the project for Timur Bekmambetov to direct. Matthew Sand (Ninja Assassin) wrote the script while at Universal, although it isn't known if Warner Bros. will use his screenplay or hire another writer.
The Red Star comes to theaters in 2012.
