Repo Men was released March 19th, 2010 and stars Jude Law, Forest Whitaker, Alice Braga, Liev Schreiber, Carice van Houten, Chandler Canterbury, Joe Pingue, Liza Lapira. The film is directed by Miguel Sapochnik.

Repomen and REPO! went into production around the same time. No one saw either film and said "hey i should make a film just like that." Also, the WGA clearly judged the two scripts to be different enough from each other, or it wouldn't have registered them. Just because the have similar concepts does not mean the have the same plot. Armageddon and Deep Impact are not the same movie, War of the worlds and independence day, etc.

By the merits of cinema, REPO! is a bad film. Fact. That doesn't mean it's not enjoyable for some people. Look at Twilight-quite possibly the worst books of the decade, and their popularity is completely counter to that.
"You didn't understand it." Is an ad hominem argument, and doesn't prove anything. I understood the film fully. If something aims to be crude, tactless, and slapped together and succeeds, those are still bad things. Movies shouldn't try to be cult classics, and that's what's bad about REPO!. It's disingenuous. But, you probably spend most of your time at Hot Topic so that word is completely meaningless, as you fully embody it.
I hope this movie gets more attention, because the trailer itself has more depth, wit, and intrigue than the entirety of REPO! If Repomen does better (not best, just better) with the concept, they deserve the success.

I like REPO! The Genetic Opera. I like action flicks too. If I hadn't been so generously introduced to REPO! by my friends, I would likely enjoy this movie, cuz I like the concept. But I prefer the opera because it has SO much more personality and SO much more love went into it's production. It also stars Sara Brightman, whom I LOVE, Anthony Stewart, whom I also LOVE, and it has AWESOME rock opera music. But, you know, there are always going to be people out there who make ignorant comments and then defend themselves to the death. REPO! was made first, by over 10 years. That is a fact. Repomen used the same concept and altered it to make it their "original" story to avoid copyright infringement. Happens all the time. Though people seem to only remember that which was more popular.

Stereotyping is only funny when done with tongue in cheek. If the actors don't even understand the irony in their characters, then why should we have to?
Repo! is horrible, beyond the point of being fun or kitschy. We're talking "American Psycho 2" or "Master of Disguise" calibre here.

It's easy to say the real Repo! is horrible if you're taking it too seriously. People have got to understand that the characters are all heavily exaggerated, basically stereotypes (the rebellious teen, the caring father who's secretly the bad guy, the murderer, the slut, the rich man with a fatal illness) and are all in a way characters we've seen before, but the genetic opera puts them together in a different way and every line of dialogue is sung. And while Repo!fans take their love for the movie very seriously, it's really not a serious movie, and that's what makes it great. That's why Rocky Horror is great, why Tromaville flicks are great: because they have a sense of humor about themselves.
Now Repo Men, on the other hand, looks like any other generic action flick, just with a slightly sci-fi kick to it.
TL;DR: Repo! is awesome BECAUSE it's horrible, Repo Men is horrible because it's trying too hard to be awesome.
I'll give it a chance when it comes out, but I'm not expecting much.

REPO! is an awful movie...how can people put it on the same pedestal as rocky horror? I hope this movie does well, because it will be entertaining, and has a high chance of not being a pile of underfunded sh*t like a certain genetic opera.

lmao I love how everyone is calling this a rip-off when Avatar, though it's a great movie, is basically Dances with Wolves on another planet. Yeah, this is basically Genetic Opera, but minus the "opera" part. Basically everything in Hollywood is a "rip-off" nowadays, it's just how they present it on screen that sets it apart from others. And this looks like an exceptionally good time that is bound to become a cult classic. Besides, I haven't seen Genetic Opera, but the trailer turned me off. This trailer got me excited.

This is vile. It couldn't possibly be more of a rip from Repo! The Genetic Opera.
And apart from the fact that the plot isn't in any way original, it's also bland, lifeless with a medley of soulless actors and actresses.
Repo! on the other hand, HAS got the catchy tunes, odd sex appeal, awesome costumes, overall CHARACTER and entrancing plot. I could go on. Easily.
Everyone who is anyone will know that Repo! The Genetic Opera is the original and, by far, the best. People should all avoid this un-original piece of rubbish.

Repossession Mambo was written in 2008. Repo! The Genetic Opera had already been a stage show for around a decade before then.
The reason this is going to make money is because most people don't know about the original Repo! and this wasn't made with the leftover budget from SAW number 3495867598765032.
This has a bigger budget, but Repo! has character. And catchy tunes. And Nivek Ogre.

This is a disappointment. Repo! The Genetic Opera is a cult favorite, and even though its imagery or creative style may not have been everyone's cup of tea, it doesn't vindicate the clear rip-off. Personally, I'm a huge Repo! fan, and I'm disappointed with this whole thing.
Rest assured, I will not be spending my money on this movie.

I always pitied those direct-to-video knock-off movie makers & now Universal has become one. They're taking a bunch of known names to sell an unoriginal script. All this is nothing but a way to get the sheep to give them their cash. Also, the original was not stupid as they could spell correctly, didn't need a big studio to make it a hit AND everyone in it was dedicated to it. The people in this are here for a paycheck only.
