Studios are always on the lookout for literary properties they believe will become the next franchise, along the lines of The Twilight Saga and The Hunger Games. New Line Cinema has thrown their hat into the young adult adaptation ring, acquiring the rights to Maggie Stiefvater's novel The Raven Boys.
The Raven Boys novel acquired by New Line Cinema
The novel is the first in a four-book series known as the "Raven Cycle," which centers on a 16-year-old girl named Blue Sargent. Her parents are powerful psychics, although this trait was not passed down to her. She is told that she possesses a deadly gift, where her true love will die simply by kissing her. Although the girl has steered clear of the opposite sex, she meets teenage brothers The Raven Boys at the pizza parlor where she works, which leads into a contentious love triangle.
Akiva Goldsman has signed on to produce, and New Line is currently seeking a screenwriter to adapt the material. The author also has an adaptation of her book The Scorpio Races in development at Warner Bros. with Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg producing. The Raven Boys book will be released September 18.
