The Producer of X-Men Origins: Magneto Updates Us on the Film
Donner confirmed that plans for X-Men Origins: Magneto are still in the works, perhaps. "I think first we wanted to make Wolverine, and then David [Goyer, the attached director] took another film, and there wasn't a lot of time," she said. "But I'd like to make that - we'll have to see."
Donner further confirmed that the plot will indeed focus on the early, idealistic days of Charles Xavier and the man who would become Magneto, Eric Lehnsherr. "We have a script on Magneto, which is actually sort of Magneto and Charles Xavier," she said. "It's Erik and Charles in their early, early years."
X-Men Origins: Magneto comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Michelle Rodriguez.

Definitely Escapist. That's why I'm hoping that this (especially the Wolverine story), will be good, as there's a story to work with. I just hope the scripting matches the plot. I hope this has style and substance.

Escapist
In my opinion, the x-men movies focused too much on how they wanted to pull off an action sequence, they diverted off the plot. A movie without a great plot sucks.

That's what I meant by most 3rd movies in franchises were afterthoughts:- no great effort is put into a 3rd because if the 1st two were good, people would see another no matter what. It's annoying, as much inventiveness should go into EVERY film of a good franchise. Even if it does end up crap, they should try at least, and not spend all the budget on (over-paid) actors and the special effects. With Spidey, as with others, I notice they're leaving a lengthy gap between the 3rd and fourth films. I wonder why!

I don't think the 3rd movies were afterthoughts because of the greatness of their predecessors. If the 3rd movies had any semblence of an engauging story, they would have been every bit as popular. Spidey 3 was a great example of this. They introduced the most popular villian in the franchise, which should have automatically ment on screen gold (not money, plot), but instead of delivering a well structured story around that villians encounter and history with Spiderman, they decided to jumble it with a bunch of unnessacary stuff. They than proceded to fill the story gaps with visuals so stunning, they had hoped it would ease the pain of the lack of story. I agree that there are exceptions. I think the 3rd LOTR was an exception for two reasons. One, it was a set story already in place by Tolken, where as Spidey 3 and X-Men 3 were the sad products of script writers trying to play to the crowds expectations as they saw them. Reason two is that all three LOTR movies were shot in tandem as essentially one movie. I think that fact is what made those movies flow so well together.
Now that I am done with my tangent, I look forward to seeing both origin movies. I admit, to not being as interested in the Magneto one, but it should still be a fun couple of hours.

Or they could introduce Gabrielle Haller? Or would that deviate from an-already-made-up storyline? (i was thinking on the lines of the holocaust business)

I agree with you Knobie09. It does seem sad, however, that when you have a couple of good movies, the 3rd one becomes a bit of an after-thought. An attempt at least should be made to be as inventive and entertaining as the first 2. With Spidey 3, it was lazy over-reliance on the special effects and characters to carry the movie instead putting a good plot and scripting in there. The film ended up being somewhat disjointed and slightly confusing. There are exceptions though, with the 3rd LOTR film being one of them. However, that was part of a larger storyline than being more of a standalone movie.
Anyway, I've gone at a complete tangent here. I think this Wolverine film will be good, as he's the most interesting X-Men character, with a LOT of history. Not sure how the other film(s) will work though, as the other characters in the 3 X-Men films didn't seem to have quite the same depth.

about x3,that's true!!! spiderman wasn't ALL that lame!!! sure it's not 1,or 2,now those were kick-ass!!! spiderman 3 will never compare with it's predecesors, but it wasn't all that a complete blunder!!!

Actually, come to think of it. X-Men 1 was probably one of the gayest movies I've seen. So corny. They might as well left the wires in the film that the actors were hanging and jumping from since they were so obvious anyway. If you wanna talk f*ck up movies, X1 is where its at. I mean look at Sabretooth for f*ck sake, and all the characters were pussies in it. Then X2 came out, and everyone finally got some nuts and Singer decided to make it somewhat realistic/violent like it would be. (Especially if Wolverine has metal claws and stabs things and all the mutants have life threatening powers). Let's say it, X1 was aimed for 12 year olds, X2 & X3 was for a more mature audience around 16-20 something.

why does everyone had movies in 3? Spiderman 3 was much worse than X-Men 3 hands down. I actually liked X3. I don't know what the big deal is. A war of mutants vs humans, what more do you want? Besides Gambit.

McCavoy is probably better suited for magneto...this sounds ridiculous but I hope they make him look taller on screen if he is cast.

No. Not Fugit. I think McAvoy would be great.

Mmm...I think McAvoy is too much good guy to play Magneto.
But he is pretty versatile and I wouldn't be against it.
Zane, maybe. He has the look and the voice, but the mannerisms are very specific.
And, let's not assume that we're just looking for young Ian McKellan and young Patrick Stewart.
Honestly, if you're approaching the characters from the comics and nowhere else, I think Zack Qinto could do Xavier, and maybe Pat Fugit for Magnus
Any other Ideas for the two major players?

What do you guys think about my casting choices?
Young Magneto-James McAvoy
Young Xavier- Billy Zane
I know there's about a 12 year age dif. between the two, but it could work as long as they don't point out the dif. in the movie ha

x3 was a disappointment, and i can't help but think wolverine is gunna be the same thing, it just sounds like they r shoving too much into one movie, and i bet magneto will end up the same way.
however i would rather have had them make magneto first cuz lets face it wolverine already had 3 movies basically, y give him another.

I think this could be interesting, but I'm not THAT excited about it. It has the potential with the right casting and director attached. I'll get more excited(or less, depends) when the casting and director is confirmed.

Ever since X3, I just can't get as excited about anything related to that mythos. The franchise has been soured by Bret Rattner's slapped-together nightmare, and could only ever be fixed by a redux on part 3 (and 4) by Bryan Singer (without Halle Bitchy).
As long as Magneto is actually a thoughtful villain like in the first two and not some idiot terrorist with no real ideology except a company line that he was made to spew out from a crappy, overburdgeoning script. For f*ck's sake, he was amazing in the first two, and X3 he was basically just hitler with powers. Rattner and that script are STOOPID and the progenitors of the movie should never get to work in Hollywood again.
