Ryan Gosling's The Place Beyond the Pines set for release on March 29, 2013
Last month, we reported that Focus Features acquired The Place Beyond the Pines for distribution at the Toronto International Film Festival. Today, we have word that the studio has slated the drama for release on March 29, 2013. It will go up against Paramount's action sequel G.I. Joe Retaliation and Summit's The Host.

Ryan Gosling stars as Luke, a motorcycle racer who decides to commit a crime to help support his child. That decision puts him in the cross hairs of local lawman Avery (Bradley Cooper), as they become embattled rivals for years to come, which affects both of their families.

Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) directed from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ben Coccio and Darius Marder. We'll be sure to keep you posted as soon as the first trailer is released.

The Place Beyond the Pines was released March 29th, 2013 and stars Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes, Bradley Cooper, Rose Byrne, Ray Liotta, Dane DeHaan, Bruce Greenwood, Olga Merediz. The film is directed by Derek Cianfrance.

Can't wait for this film to come out, but this is terrible news for the project - financially speaking. G.I. Joe will rake in a good amount of money that weekend, despite being hurt by it's ten month push back. The Host will likely make a modest load of dough as well due to the novel's following. Hell, it's already gearing up to be the next Twilight franchise (heaven forbid). Add on the fact that this film has no "blockbuster stars" (though both Cooper and Gosling are rising stars) on top of lacking the over abundance of explosions that tend to bring most male viewers to theaters, and let's just say that this film might not make ends meet. Not to say that it has no chance or no talent. It's the complete opposite, actually. However, unlike Drive or similar indie action-dramas, this film is going off in the tailing of Spring against two would be blockbusters. It just doesn't seem like a smart release date at the moment. I hate seeing good films (like this is likely to be, though that's never a sure thing) getting overshadowed by flicks that are leaning towards crap like it's competition are.
