The Nutcracker to Be Reimagined as an Action Film

A beloved children's classic will be hitting the cineplexes in a new action-packed version in the coming years. The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog is reporting that New Line Cinema has bought a pitch from Darren Lemke (Jack the Giant Killer) for an action-adventure version of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.

The story is most recognized as the Christmas ballet featuring music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, but the original story was written by E.T.A. Hoffman many years before the 1892 debut of the ballet. The story revolves around a three siblings who receive gifts from their godfather, an eccentric clockmaker and inventor. One of the gifts is a nutcracker doll and the 12-year-old girl is whisked away to a mysterious land ruled by the Mouse King.

No production schedule was released for the film.

Zemekis, screwed up the Christmas Carol. It was nothing like the book. He tried to make a freaking kids movie and it wasn't supposed to be like that.
