The Muppets Sequel Moves Forward Without Jason Segel

Jason Segel will not write The Muppets sequel script, but director James Bobin will
In a classic good news/bad news scenario, Disney has signed off on a sequel to The Muppets, although actor/writer Jason Segel will not be involved in writing the script.

Disney has inked deals with The Muppets director James Bobin and Nick Stoller to write the screenplay for the sequel. Jason Segel co-wrote The Muppets with Nick Stoller, but it is said that his commitments to other projects mean he won't be available to write the script. Along with his CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, Jason Segel will be busy promoting The Five-Year Engagement, due in theaters April 27, and This Is 40, opening December 21.

Even though Jason Segel won't be writing The Muppets sequel, insiders claim he is still open to starring in the follow-up, if the James Bobin/Nick Stoller script is to his liking.

While it may be quite some time before The Muppets sequel hits theaters, you can relive The Muppets on Blu-ray and DVD March 20.

The Muppets was released November 23rd, 2011 and stars Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones, Donald Glover, Danny Trejo. The film is directed by James Bobin.

@ghostman Haha, it's cool man. Every year I always end up skipping out on some big films. The Muppets comes out on DVD March 20th. You could hit up a RedBox then. Or if you have any discount theatres around you maybe try one of those, see if they're playing it.

This last one was fantastic...it made me feel like i was 7 years old watching it and i loved it. you could tell segal and stoller actually really cared about the characters and script they wrote; and segal admitted it took a couple years to write out the final draft...

i hope stoller and bobin put in the same amount of effort with this one...
