The Monster Squad Remake Lands at Platinum Dunes
This new report indicates that a writer is being sought for the film and it wasn't clear if Mike Mitchell was still on board as the director, as we reported back in October.
Fred Dekker directed the original film, from a script he co-wrote with Shane Black. The story revolved around a group of die-hard horror fans who discover that the classic monsters Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman and others have emerged in their town as they help the monsters look for a mystical amulet.
We'll be sure to keep you posted on any further details of The Monster Squad as soon as we have more information.
Monster Squad was released in 2011.
The Monster Squad was released August 14th, 1987 and stars Andre Gower, Robby Kiger, Stephen Macht, Duncan Regehr, Tom Noonan, Brent Chalem, Ryan Lambert, Ashley Bank. The film is directed by Fred Dekker.

i think theyve gotta stay true to the funny side of this film too, not make it into some kind of gore fest! if they respect the original this film could be a great remake!

This is one of my favourite movies as a kid. Really loved the whole idea of it. Look forward to hearing more about it. But i agree with Err, bit more horror in it would be nice.

Err
i wouldn't mind seeing this movie done with some amount of scariness, or attempted scariness to it,
the old one was fun and junk, but eh.

they're gonna jack this up. few movies have the same nostalgic affect as the 80's movies did. hollywood has lost touch and the ability to create quality kid/teen movies. no more classic lines like "KICK HIM IN THE NARDS! *Kicks* Whoa, Wolfmen have nards!" and "FUNKY-BUTT-LOVIN" (Rookie of the Year) and all the classics of the Hughes collection.
that being said, i like the idea (though i think they're gonna make it too dark and isolate the audience they truly want) and think Monster Squad is one of the movies that could get away with a decent remake/franchise.

I agree with ya SparkyDarky. Star Wars won't be remade as long as Lucas is alive, but make my words once he's dead then they will be all over it. It's a shame too.

A true classic being brought kicking and screaming into the 21st Century! Leave these great films alone!
Back on April fools day last year, Movieweb posted a fake story about Star Wars getting remade - guaranteed that this wont be a joke for long and someone at Hollywood will think its a good idea too!
Also joekerr2e, I totally forgot about the "Kick him in the nards" - well remembered, awesome line!
