Just watched this last night and I totally hated the ended. I first read this story on a plane ride to San Diego in 1990, loved it, even mentioned to my wife that it would make an awesome movie, but the ending messed up a pretty good movie, in my opinion.

What transpires would not have been an option for me personally, at least not without knowing more, seeing more, etc. I cannot say too much more for fear of giving away something or ruining it for others, however I think it was cop out type of twist.
