Screen Gems now owns the rights to Michael Baisden's bestselling novel The Maintenance Man. According to Variety, the book revolves around a male prostitute having an existential crisis.

Baisden, who also happens to be a syndicated radio show host, will write the script. His book hit the bestseller list in 1999, and touched on the subjects of love, lust, and lies. The narrative followed a Julliard grad that ditched his music aspirations for work as a gigolo. He soon makes a fortune as the hired companion of wealthy married women.

The book has already been adapted into a stage play, and in 2004 there was a straight-to-DVD film based on the published work. There is no word on when the film will start shooting.
