The Lord of the Rings Lawsuit Settled

The Tolkien Trust (a UK registered charity), New Line Cinema, and HarperCollins Publishers Ltd. have resolved the lawsuit relating to the The Lord of the Rings films.

The claim was filed in February of last year. HarperCollins Publishers Ltd. and the trustees of the JRR Tolkien Estate were co-plaintiffs in the claim, which concerned plaintiffs' participation interest in the The Lord of the Rings films released between 2001 and 2003. The precise terms of the settlement are confidential.

Commenting on the settlement, Christopher Tolkien said: "The Trustees regret that legal action was necessary, but are glad that this dispute has been settled on satisfactory terms that will allow the Tolkien Trust properly to pursue its charitable objectives. The Trustees acknowledge that New Line may now proceed with its proposed films of The Hobbit."

Warner Bros.' President & Chief Operating Officer Alan Horn said: "We deeply value the contributions of the Tolkien novels to the success of our films and are pleased to have put this litigation behind us. We all look forward to a mutually productive and beneficial relationship in the future."

The The Lord of the Rings films produced by New Line are among the most successful films ever created and were released in 2001, 2002 and 2003 respectively.

JRR Tolkien is the world-renowned author of works including The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. The Tolkien Trust is a UK registered charity that has made grants to charitable causes all over the world totaling over $8 million in the last five years alone.

We have a spammer on this site, and we need to kick them off. He/she is on every board, saying the same thing every time. Who's with me?

If it isn't Delgren nor you Newkill200, who do you think might do this then?
I really don't care if your gay or not but what you need to do is start to grow up a little more, because once your out into the real world, you're on your own.
I tried to warn you, but if you don't care then you have more problems than your letting on.
Twenty three years old, you haven't even lived yet. What Schools don't teach you is how to live, think before you speak, cause one day someone will try to do something nastier.

Btw, I love BOTH the Saw franchise and LotR trilogy is the best trilogy thus far. If you pick out other trilogies (which aren't that many actually), there is always one movie or part you dislike. Most poeple dislike the 3rd Matrix movie, thus it can't qualify for best trilogy, same for X-Men, Spiderman, Resident Evil, Pirates of the Carribbean (which I think is the 2nd best trilogy personally), and even Alien can't be considered a runner up cause majority of people didn't like Alien 3. Besides, you can't really count Saw as a trilogy since it has a lot of films now (which is fine by me I love them) so like I said, not a lot of contenders for "best trilogy" lol. I'm sure there are more I am just not thinking of them right now. You guys can drop some more if they are true contenders, and not stopped by a bad sequel or something of the sort.

Am I an idiot or did I just read this was about New Line and JRR Tolkien Trustees?

If so, why did they put this in there?

Well, it's funny that out of all my favorite films I listed in my profile you picked the one that was poorly received by the majority. The reason why i think Lord of the Rings is a terrible trilogy is the same reason why i hate the Star Wars prequel. Lame premises and dull stories that are made out to be groundbreaking, and ultimately it's a fantasy film and i loathe fantasy films, except Dream Warriors which i think is great fantasy horror. Lol, there's another favorite movie of mine that you can bash on.

    Haha. The last two comments.

and Newkill, I don't listen to critics much, but when it comes to Saw, not only critics but moviegoers, and myself all agree. Too each their own. And the reason I brought up Saw was because it is one of your faves, like LOTR is one of mine. You didn't have a single reason of why its that bad. Or can you not find one?

Thats some hard boiled evidence right there. Hmmm, where does this mystery lead us to now?? Who, is the profiler copycat? Will Newkill200 ever retain his identity? When will Delgren regain his innocents. Tune in next time for for another thrilling chapter of, Movieweb: Dead or Alive.

You see this is me, Delgren, copying your profile. See no need for an underscore, also if you look at the address when you go to the profile it says Roxyrollerderbyqueen. The other copycat's address is Newkill_200. Like i said I have no reason to lie. Hopefully this finally clears things up. PS Newkill, your just as much a troll as anybody. Douche bag.

Hey I'm not denying I didn't make a profile, so did you, and you kept on long after i called a truce, but the fact remains thats not me. I have no reason to deny it if I was doing it.

Todd, Delgren, created a whole new profile and used that instead of his own. It's not a new member. Delgren's just one my trolls.

newkill you do have a problem... no one sent me to warn you.
It's a new member, you might have upset someone enough to go after you.

  16. Delgren

Wow, thats not a surprising response. I could say the same about you, I had a feeling you were going to say something like that. I don't really care anymore, I just want to clear the air, it's not me, so maybe you should tell your new enemy to stop copying your profile or stop doing it yourself. From now on its your problem, I'm not going to respond to anymore of your sh*t. Go have fun with your self.

Dude, I haven't posted sh*t copying your profile for a few days now, I honestly have better sh*t to do with my time. Honestly, either someone else has a bone to pick with you, or your doing it your self to make me look like sh*t or you honestly have nothing better to do than continue this sh*t. Plus I don't put an underscore between your name and 200. If its you grow the f*ck up already.

Lol, Delgren, your still at it, huh. Copying my profile. I thought you quit. I've moved on, if you haven't read on of my previous comments. So your off the hook little bitch. I have a new troll to deal with.

So, Fallen, you only like something if it's loved by critics, which shows how closed minded you are. I on the other hand am not ashamed of what I like just because of what critics say. Okay, then Lotr is not the worst of all time. It's the worst trilogy until something else terrible comes along. Nough said.

Yes, I wouldn't say it's the best but it's well crafted on all angles.

  22. Mutant

I beg to differ newkill, it's one of the best trilogy's out there. Now with that in mind, I think the D&D line should be rebooted and told as an epic trilogy with either Jackson or another great director rather than the sloppy approach than the last two films had.

  23. The Narrator: The Better Man

I'm glad. Now WB and New Line can move on..

and it is the BEST trilogy ever. Saying the worst of all time, not only shows how you have a closed mind to it, (all time? Like your gonna live that long) but also shows that your taste needs something when you love Saw; one of the most hated series by critics and then hate LOTR; one of the most acclaimed works of art in the industry. Niice.
